About NABUUR
NABUUR in a nutshell

A 21st century approach
What makes NABUUR different? The method:
NABUUR leverages the internet to enable people around the world to connect and collaborate. Online volunteers (Neighbours) are matched to and linked with Local Communities (Villages) in developing countries through www.nabuur.com. The people living in the
Villages formulate projects to address local issues.
Together, the people and the Neighbours find solutions.
For Neighbours, the focus is not on donating money, but
on sharing knowledge, ideas and contacts. This novel
approach leaves the initiative in the hands of the Villages.
NABUUR combines the best of the old (neighbourly help) with the best of now (the internet).

Not only familiar results
Though the method is unique, the results seem familiar:
Dairy cooperatives are formed. Internet cafés opened.
Children are educated. Health clinics are built. Crops are
irrigated. Websites are launched. Income is generated.
The difference is that the work is done by a dedicated
network of online volunteers. That opens up new
perspectives for additional effects
But less costs
The NABUUR organization only hosts and facilitates the
process. This innovative approach reduces the costs and
time required to achieve results. Especially when the
numbers of Villages rise, the cost per project will fall.

And important additional effects
The NABUUR method is about empowerment. It is about
hands‐up instead of hand‐outs.
NABUUR stimulates, fosters and supports local problem solving capabilities. This contrasts with the approach
Villages are used to: write a proposal and then wait for
funding.
Through NABUUR, online volunteers transfer knowledge,
make contacts, scout resources, and share their expertise.
The local community and its representative (Local
Representative) get new solutions, a team of assistants
across the world, and tools, experience and confidence to
handle projects themselves.
The online volunteers (Neighbours) appreciate NABUUR
because they found the place to make a positive
difference, without leaving their homes and at a time
suiting them best.

Online Project Manager
Known on NABUUR.com as a "Facilitator"
In this unique and rewarding volunteer role, you will:
- Expand your project management skills
- Build up a network with people from around the world quickly
- Get international and multi-cultural experience
- Have a direct impact on an entire community
- Add an official recommendation to your resume/CV
- From behind your computer and at the time suiting you best.
- Make a difference - and get an impressive experience too!
If you like to organize projects, work with diverse people, and mobilise volunteers to produce results, you could make a great Facilitator. A Facilitator is a host, moderator and project manager. (S)he welcomes new Neighbours, makes sure the Village website is up to date and looking attractive and defines the project plan, together with the Local Representative.
Being a Facilitator is a great responsibility, as the Facilitator is responsible for achieving results the Village is looking for. Just as the Neighbours, a Facilitator is an unpaid volunteer.
The bigger the challenge, the better the reward.
Being a Facilitator is a demanding job, because the Village is counting on you to achieve results. You will have to monitor online discussions, maintain resources developed by the Neighbours and ensure the project stays on track.
You will face unexpected difficulties. Just when you need to speak with the Local Representative, he can't get online due to a power outage. A Neighbour who promised to do a task doesn't follow through. Other Neighbours stop participating altogether.
Because you are all volunteers, you will have to find creative ways to motivate your team. You will need to be resourceful and persistent to keep the project moving forward.
The reward will come in photos of smiling faces from the Village and reports from the community thanking you and your team. From behind your computer, in just a few hours each week, you'll play a central role in helping to realize the dreams of a community.
Who can become a Facilitator?
If the following applies to you, you are encouraged to apply for the Facilitator position:
You are:
- Proactive
- A natural leader who know how to mobilise people
- Result-minded
- A team-player
- A pioneer who doesn't give up easily
- Equipped with excellent interpersonal skills online
- Facilitators have to be able to spend 6 hours a week on NABUUR.com, should be fluent in English, have daily internet access and should be available for at least 6 months.
The next step
If accepted to become a Facilitator, you will be given a short yet comprehensive online training. If completed successfully a certificate will be awarded to you.
Upon finishing the online training, you will be assigned an online village (based on your preference of issue and location).
You will have access to a behind the scenes Facilitator Village, where Facilitators gather to share experiences and tips. Regular tutorials and discussions on topics such as cultural sensitivity, communications etc. are held in the Village.
You will have access to a group of Senior Facilitators who are there to offer guidance whenever needed.NABUUR.com
