gobar gas plants

Posts about gobar gas plants

Hi Walude,

The faecal waste of cows and buffaloes is called 'gobar' in Hindi. Most of rural India has a large population of these farm animals essentially for their milk.

Hello Asuman,

A basic schematic diagram and explanation of how the gobar gas system works can be seen on the following site -

It is a low-cost technique, involving simple masonry work.

After the areas for installing these plants are identified, your next steps must be to assess the capacities of the plants to be set up at each location, the costs involved, time-frame, etc.

Hello Asuman,

A logical method that could be explored is to identify community areas where such gobar gas plants could be set up. These would be areas where a good deal of waste is generated - like schools, community centres, cluster of houses close to each other, farms wih a large animal population, etc.

The 'gobar gas plant' is an environmentally friendly product which converts faecal matter to fertilizer, and also produces methane gas as a by-product. This gas can be used for cooking etc. This is a cost effective solution through which cutting of trees for cooking can be reduced since methane gas can be made available for cooking, organic fertilizer can be made available for community use, and the environment can be kept clean. Contamination of ground water with faecal waste can be avoided by chanelling all faecal waste to these gobar gas plants.

Further to my post as above in this thread, I have recently posted on another village on nabuur about an alternate green technology product - the 'gobar gas plant'.
