Income Generation Activities

Posts about Income Generation Activities

Hi Adnan,
I just found this ressource on the Reach A Man to Fish Website. http://www.unevoc.unesco.org/fileadmin/user_upload/pubs//iug015e.pdf Maybe you could read through it and especially the different case examples, and find out if any of the ideas could work for your centre. Since you know best what is possible in your context in Pakistan, let's hear if there is anything from the suggestions the document makes that would work. Then we could discuss how to realize it.
I will also have a closer look at it, but you are the man who knows best, so please give suggestions if there are.

Thank you Vijai for this very helpful post.

Sulaiman, could you please tell us more about the community's life style. What sort of activities do they do to obtain food. Are they farmers? What kind of crops do they grow? Are they hunters?? Please tell us all you can ASAP.

Brainstorm options for income-generating activities for the Community Ouside of School

The families at the Bukoggolwa Village are very poor. Single mothers or elderly adults take care of many children at a time, all due to the high mortality rate in adults caused by HIV.

These mothers and elderly adults barely afford to sustain these children. Extra income for tuition is out of the question.

We are looking on researching and discussing activities that these families could depend on for their own sustainability.

Sulaiman, could you please let us know what sort of income-generating activities are already being performed by the school and by the community? Has anything been tried out yet? Have the teachers given any ideas? Is there a committee for this?

I reviewed messages related to your rabbit project and would like to hear more from Christopher.
You started with 3 rabbits on 18 Nov 2008. How are you keeping the records; e.g.
dates of deliveries and how many kits born;
the total number of rabbits generated by the system (alive and dead)

I have a rabbit project with schools in Kenya.
Take a look at http://www.globetree.org/africa/rabbit-net/

Hi,

I am new to Nabuur, to this village, and to development activities in general, and I have never been to Africa. My expertise is in project management, with some limited exposure to environmental conservation. So if my suggestions are misguided, please let me know!

With regard to alternative sources of income, I had a couple of thoughts:

  • Collection and sale/growing on of seed from the areas that are under threat from deforestation. There may be organisations seeking to fund reafforestation activities.
  • Other Income generation Ideas

The main objectives of this project is the fruit farm and agroforestry project. When their is harvest, we can consider fruit drying and honey making, but until then other income generation ideas are needed, as well as teaching about business, markets and economy.

In this task we are looking for ideas of small businesses that the co-operative can handle and succeed in.
