Lily, the blind dog and her trusted buddy, without whom she can't go walkies!

Hi
There is so much you can do, but it all depends on what resources you are starting with. It really depends on where you are now as to what your next steps are. Do you have a business plan? If so, what are your answers to these questions?

1 How many people are involved in the business? What skills and experience do you have now and what do you want to / need to learn?
2 What resources do you have now?
3 Do you have internet access?
4 Who do you know?
5 What literature about similar companies or businesses do you have?
6 Do you know who your market is?

Hi all-

Several days ago, Maria shared a few pictures from the school of some of the younger students with items that have been made by the older students (18-25 years) taking classes. One idea that Adnan had was possibly seeing if the school could find a market for the items made by the students, sell these items and generate some income to help sustain the school. Adnan is very interested in talking more about this idea to see if it may bring about one feasible solution for income-generation while teaching the students business skills as well.

Hi all-

There were about 5 different tasks focused on finding a market for the paper beads and jewelry that are made by the local women in Jinja East. I have condensed everything into this single task and updated it with the pictures that were provided. There were several good suggestions made in one of the tasks that I wanted to move here since they are each relevant to this discussion. Those suggestions with notes regarding who the comments were from are as follows:

Help Develop a Sponsorship Program for the Children of Jinja East

Status: Needs urgent help
Time needed:
Two weeks or more
Step:
5

Jinja East has quite a big population of children who need urgent help. Child sponsorship is one way for us to obtain the financial support necessary to help them. These children range in age from 2-25 years old. Many are living with HIV/AIDS or have lost their parents to the same. Others are migrants from northern Uganda whose mothers were displaced by the 22-year war of the LRA leaving their fathers either in the hands of the LRA, or worse, dead. For those in this situation, often both mother's and children need our help. Many of these children live on the streets.

Paper Beads- A Way of Earning Income - Help Find a Market

Status: In progress
Time needed:
Two weeks or more
Step:
5

The members of Revelation Children’s Ministries International come from every tribe in Eastern and Northern Uganda. They are Christian and Muslim, young and old, educated and illiterate. The one thing they have in common is that they have suffered from extreme poverty due to wars and other related calamities. They have great resilience, strength and determination with hard work and have hope living with dignity and determination.

Two weeks or more
Step:

UPDATE (as of 7/10/11)

A brochure was designed for this task, but the volunteer who designed it is no longer in contact with Tejanath and he is seeking help updating it. There is additional information that he would like to add. Can you help him update the brochure?

Previous Task

The tourism committee would like to develop a professional brochure to promote Sankhuwasabha and increase the number of visitors to the district. For this task we are asking volunteers to help us:

1. Define what information should be included in a tourism brochure.

Find a Market for Paper Beaded Jewelry, Necklaces and Accessories

Status: Just started
Step:
2

The HANDS IN SERVICE Organization is trying its best in making necklaces, bracelets and paintings to generate income for the organization. Currently, we have a very big number of necklaces and bracelets, but we do not have any market to sell our products. If we try to sell these items in the local market, they sell for very cheap and we are finding it impossible to raise enough money from them to support the organization.
