Research Funding opportunities - Teaching women and girls to make cloth sanitary pads
Some months ago a discussion started on Nabuur about girls in Kabondo, Kenya not being able to attend school during their period; a common problem in many parts of the developing world. Disposable pads are very expensive and alternatives don't seem to exist for most girls. They often just stay home for the 5-10 days per month that they have they period, rather than be embarrassed. This cuts heavily into their education. ( To see past discussion visit http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/kabondo/project/task/feminine-hygiene-p...)
Year in Review
Sat, 2008/12/27 - 20:54 —Greetings Neighbours!
The end of a year is often a time of reflection and contemplation. It is a time to look back at the year and see what has been accomplished, what lessons can be learned, and what to plan for the future. It is with this in mind that I look back over the past year in Kabondo.
Hello Pastor Fred,
Can you clarify a bit as to what you are looking for here? Are you looking for ideas to attract more visitors to the website or are you looking for someone to review the website and see ways to improve it from a marketing point of view?
If you are looking for was to increase traffic there are a number of things you can do:
1. Start a facebook page and link this page on Nabuur, the page on facebook and your website
2. Join other social networking groups such as Twitter (Maybe Romina knows more about these options....)
Where can we find in kind support for Kajjansi Children's Centre
Paul would like to find in kind support for the school BEHOD set up.
We'll apply for books at Biblionef. Mary posted a huge list of organisations in the Fundraising group:
Over time I have created a list of potential sources of funding, books etc which I add to as I find things.
It is at
http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dgs9fnp6_0g5zp8p3n
and has the following sections:
1.SOURCES OF FUNDING
2.EQUIPMENT/SUPPLIES DONATIONS
3.BOOK DONATIONS AND LOW COST BOOKS
4.TWIN SCHOOLS/PARTNERSHIPS
5.OTHER PARTNERHSHPS
6.ONLINE FUNDRAISING
Help to stock up the library with books and resource material
The education centre has established a small library, but it needs to be filled with books and resource materials.
I wanted to add some further detail to this task:
In order to help the school manage the large number of orphans that attend and are unable to pay school fees, one of the options that Christopher mentioned was developing a sponsorship program.
We talked about 2 options:
1. The school running their own program.
2. The school working with an existing program to gain support for the orphaned students.
November Newsletter
Sat, 2008/11/08 - 20:21 —Greetings Everyone!
I would just like to take a moment to welcome all the new neighbours to Kabondo and thank all the existing neighbours for their continued contributions!
Eric and the community has been busy recently with visitors to the community and preparing for new ones to come. Recently, Dr. Lucy Steinitz visited Kabondo on behalf of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, to make an assessment for a proposal submitted to the SLF. Next week, some visitors from the University of Western Ontario (Canada) will be visiting as well to discuss some potential projects in the area.
