A BIG Update and Overview of Developments in Jinkfuin, Cameroon
Sat, 2009/10/31 - 22:25 —I hope that everyone is having a great weekend! Today, I had the distinct honor of meeting online in chat with Reverend Teh to get an update on the Jinkfuin project. As a result of that discussion, I am excited to share this very big update and overview with all of you.
Update on the status of the Primary School
Hi Gladys-
The Harvard Project on Disability has a great resource posted to their website, a training manual titled "Human Rights. Yes!" It is located here:
http://hpod.org/pdf/HumanRightsYes.pdf
It is a rather large file, so depending on your connection you may have trouble downloading it. If so, let me know and I can send it via another format by email. This one is quite nice because it contains suggested group activities and is specifically related to the rights of people with disabilities under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
New training in Jinja: Hairdressing

One of the new plans of BEHOD is to start a hairdressers training. In order to start this training BEHOD needs equipment, which the Essent trainees are now looking for. Updates and ideas can go here... :-)
Small solar power applications

One of the ideas for income generating and training programs that came up is making solar panel torches. The idea would be to train BEHOD members in making these torches (or other products) and set up a small business. This way the centre can sustain itself and the PWDs would be able to earn their own income.
Will add more info soon.

A power solution for our training centre: find the best solution

15 computers have arrived in Jinja and the training for a group of PWDs has started. Electricity is available in the training centre, but power cuts are often experienced. This doesn't only affect the time that the computers can be used; the hardware also suffers from these power breaks.
A backup power solution is needed to enable us to keep working during power breaks and keep the computers in good shape. This will also enable us to eventually run an internet café, that can provide BEHOD with an income.
Updates on computer training

The computers have arrived in Jinja. Now the training needs to be set up. BEHOD needs a letter from the Ministry in order to be able to hand out certificates. Other actions will follow.
Updates will be posted here!
Secretarial services: how can we get a photo copier in Jinja?

In order to raise some money for support we want to start offering secretarial services. One item that is needed is a photo copier. What would be the best way to get it?
