Posts about Teachers

Hi Daniel-

Thank you for sharing the posting. I think Maria is correct in that it needs to have additional details about what you are expecting and what a volunteer teacher can expect if they come to work with your organization. The example she shared is a good one. Try to think about this from the perspective of going to another country yourself - what would you want to know before you visited? Adding some additional background about your organization would also be good.

Some ideas of other details you could include are:

1. What does a typical school day consist of?

Hi Daniel-

What is the current status of teachers at the school? How many are there?

I see that you posted an opportunity with Idealist - did that work well for you?

Maria had recommended that you (and/or you and the volunteers) work on writing a job description for the volunteer teaching positions - did that get done?

I would suggest also maybe considering a brochure that talks about what volunteers can expect during their experience in the local community.

It would be great if you can provide us with an update.

Thank you!

Jennifer

In my opinion, if anyone is serious about running a school, they need to employ good teachers and pay them well. Teaching through volunteers can only be successful as a part-time or leisure activity in holidays etc. Continuity of teaching and coherence with the county's education system are important factors which can only be fulfilled through well-paid teachers.

The focus must shift to raising funds 'through self-sustenance', for paying the teachers' salaries.

St. Charles Special Needs School could use 2 volunteers for addressing the special education needs of children with disabilities, provision of therapy, and above all to share their experiences with teachers and children.

The school is NOT able to pay for lodging, food or transportation expenses. School authorities CAN provide information about safe and decent lodging, good meals and local transportation depending on how much the volunteer can afford to pay.
