Many organisations will need outside funding at some point, but it can be hard to know which methods of fundraising will be most effective for you.

This discussion is a place where you can share your experience of fundraising and request advice from others. You can also post links to useful information available elsewhere on the internet.

Examples may include:

* Sharing experience of what has worked well for you, and what has not
* Advice on how to find local, national and international donor organisations
* Holding successful fundraising events
* Alternatives to donations e.g. making money from your projects to make them self-sustaining
* Writing proposals and filling in grant application forms
* How to approach companies for donations
* Using online fundraising sites
* Links to websites with advice on proposal writing, lists of donor organisations etc

Please DO NOT post any requests for money here.

Where can I find information on grants to individuals?
Where can I find information on proposal writing for individual grantseekers?
How do I find out about grants for my area of interest?
What is a foundation?
How can I learn about proposal writing?
Where can I find examples of grant proposals?
How do I establish a nonprofit organization?
Where can I find information on corporate giving?
Where can I find information about government grants?

Its has been a very very long walk for Nabuur and its members.Having a long list of organisations i dont feel is the answer to making them have the funding.Availing them with even the outline of how a proposal should be done will not suffice but i feel that we should go to the core issue at hand which is to make sure that these people really understand what is in there for them to be able to grip what it involves to dfundrasie and to be able to stir the very much needed capacity to the donors and the grantors of funds that they want to be people who want that kind of help that is being availed to them.

When i posted the 1st time on the new site on what i was willing to do online it has been about 3 months since i last saw what i posted and no response on what i was going to do.I thought it was wise to first try and raise awareness on what we should do about fund raising and there i was pasting and writing and making sure that the little knowledge that i have on fund raising is got to other people but unfortunately it was never meant to be.No time has gone by and there seems that we still dont understand what we are meant to do with all these organizations that we have as funders and grantors as well as donors. The underlying factor.................we need to know what fund raising is before we seek to get the funds!

Over time I have created a list of potential sources of funding, books etc which I add to as I find things.

It is at
http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dgs9fnp6_0g5zp8p3n

and has the following sections:

1.SOURCES OF FUNDING
2.EQUIPMENT/SUPPLIES DONATIONS
3.BOOK DONATIONS AND LOW COST BOOKS
4.TWIN SCHOOLS/PARTNERSHIPS
5.OTHER PARTNERHSHPS

Hi Mary-

Excellent list!

You may want to take a look at my first post on Nabuur.com to potentially add a section about our forprofit/nonprofit fundraising partnerships to your list.

Hi David,

This is mavelous. I am a new NABUUR subscriber and already happy to get this tremendous piece of information from you. Keep it up brother. You should be blessed for being such a humble man to share this information generously. Very few people can actually do this. It will help me do a search for support for our project. Once again keep it up and thanx alot. Do not hesitate to share more and more. This is a challenge and do think many neighbours will take it.

Regards,

Hi David,

This is a very interesting post. I have recently signed up for Twitter, but I guess I am not clear on how this can work. You said you raised $10000 in 48 hours using Twitter and viral marketing. Can you provide a bit more detail on how to go about this? I have recently signed up on Twitter as well as Social Actions and have started blogging on some of the work we do (I also operate a charity based in Canada so I am interested in this concept for that as well as the Nabuur projects). Do you require an established nework already? For EpicChange did you have an existing group that this all went to? Did you have to have a large following on Twitter first? Maybe we can chat more about this?

hi,
many of the villages are looking for textbooks. Which is better collecting textbooks in Ireland and spending a huge amount of money shipping bulky textbooks that are not on the curriculum or buying books in that country? Either way fundraising is needed or does somebody know a cheap way of getting the books to the schools.
thanks, Sinéad

Hi Fatima,
First of December is World Aids Day, maybe we could break a record on this day, starting with the communites in New Zealand, through Asia, Africa, Europe and ending in America,It could be dance, relay, treeplanting, keep the ideas coming. How would it be judicated by Guinness?

Hi Sinead,
In my opinion it is really expensive to ship books. Often in development countries you can buy books much cheaper. So when buying the books in that country, you can buy much more for the same amount as shipping books. Do check what type of books you would like to have (not all books are available everywhere).
Good luck! Arasu

HI Christie,
I am the Secretary of children/youth assembly Sawera model school a project of Sawera Foundation Muzaffarabad Azad kashmir pakistan. We are providing free education to orfhans, earthquake victims as well as other poor families of kashmiri Refugees children in AJK who migrated from occupied kashmir. At the moment we are handling 3 schools in AJK.But we have main problem for infrastructure. We need funding for infrastructure as well as arrangments of books, uniforms and other basic necessities of children of 3 schools (1200 canidates) but at the moment we are not in position to provide books ,uniforms and other school facilities to these children due to lack of finance. So i am requesting to different donors to provide us such assistance for our future schools sessions.

I hope you will help us in this matter. If you need further informations regarding our schools please contact me.
