Share your advice and resources on fundraising here

Many organisations will need outside funding at some point, but it can be hard to know which methods of fundraising will be most effective for you.
This discussion is a place where you can share your experience of fundraising and request advice from others. You can also post links to useful information available elsewhere on the internet.
Examples may include:
* Sharing experience of what has worked well for you, and what has not
* Advice on how to find local, national and international donor organisations
* Holding successful fundraising events
* Alternatives to donations e.g. making money from your projects to make them self-sustaining
* Writing proposals and filling in grant application forms
* How to approach companies for donations
* Using online fundraising sites
* Links to websites with advice on proposal writing, lists of donor organisations etc
Please DO NOT post any requests for money here.

The best thing you can do to make the most of social media is to start to educate yourself via sites like ehow.com and Youtube. Great tips on these sites. At the end of the day, you need to remember that social media is primarily 'social' so mix it up with your posts in terms of seeking support and contributing good content. This way, you are more likely to engage people.
Look for people or agencies in the search function that you think can help you and follow them. When you do this, check out via their profiles who is following them. Spend a little time scouting about 3-5 people new to follow who could be good network links for you and your charity.
Posting useful, valuable and informative links and content are key to getting participation in social media such as Twitter.
Any volunteers you work with, if they like spending time online, engage them in developing your social media.
Social media can be time consuming. Tools can help to make you more efficient. Check out: HootSuite , Owly , Bit.ly Tweetdeck Consider multiple accounts and managing them via a dashboard such as Tweetdeck.
Get a plan together for using social media... I have some info I could share on file somewhere probably!
If you have a website, it is possible to link all these together. Gimme a shout if you have any questions : )
Good luck and have fun D
