Project: Feedback on the NABUUR.com beta site

I was reading the comments and saw your post. Just want to say that this site is working very well all around now. They've made many changes since they first started taking suggestions.
For anyone who wants to resize the pictures on the page, there are 2 things you can do.
In IE7 go to display/settings. Set your screens resolution higher and the pictures will get smaller and clearer. If it gets too small you can raise the display/dpi setting to compensate.
You can change the page to any size, by clicking on the task bar setting in your browser. The zoom setting will appear on the bottom right of your screen in the task bar. You can adjust this to anywhere from 0-4x page and picture size.
In Firefox you can use the - and + key while holding down the control key to decrease or increase the page and picture size.

Pelee, Rolf, Romina, whomever else is in on this, a discussion comment should not comparable to filling out an income tax form. What ever happened to the "advanced editing" features button?
We need to keep this simple. Why must I scroll way down to "send" my message?
Why all the small print?
When I check out a discussion, I want to be able to quickly and briefly figure out whether or not I can help.
This is some feedback from neighbors by email
Dear NABUUR's,
Just wanted to drop a line to say congratulations on having the new site up an running. It has really been a great effort and the site is looking much better now.
3 quick points that could be fixed easily and improve the current functionality:
1. Try to make the steps that are finished invisible so it gets let's confusing
2. CHange the name of general tasks to something less confusing
3. Give the option to change between oldest and latest messages first in the workspace.
Hope this helps and great work again,
Raul
Hi everyone,
A lot of the bugs you report here are being answered in the General Feedback thread. I just posted an overview of the bugs and comments/proposed solutions (if any, at this point, or if further investigation is needed) for most of them: http://www.nabuur.com/en/node/14334/unthreaded
I'll ask Frans if we can move your posts over there, and perhaps close this thread as the discussions are overlapping one another.
Though the questions posed below have answers in the other thread, I'll recap them here:
Manny
- The 'advanced edit option' is on the request list. It needs to be developed (couldn't be transferred automatically from the old site). Unsure of when it would be ready, but you'll be kept updated.
- Small print: Yes, it's been pointed out and personally I agree with it. Being looked into.
- Clicking on a message to reply/read and not seeing the whole thread: Being looked into with high priority.
- Scrolling down to 'send' message seems is a theming issue. Will follow up.
(Ouch on the Microsoft jab ;))
Mary
- Will check with Frans tomorrow re: picture sizing.
Jennifer
- Were the pictures in the gallery of the village or in other pages? (like My Story or Project, etc)
Lynley
- To leave the chat, you can click (village name) Chat at the top of the page. But not sure what you mean by you had to close the tab?
Romina
Dear Raul,
Thank you so much for your positive feedback.
1. Try to make the steps that are finished invisible so it gets let's confusing
Good idea, we are working on this right now.
2. CHange the name of general tasks to something less confusing
Not sure what you mean here. What do you suggest?
3. Give the option to change between oldest and latest messages first in the workspace.
This is ask by some other neighbours too. We are working it out now.
Warm Regards, Frans
Hi Frans,
What compression are you using for the intro video?. Even on a fast connection it is way too slow. Maybe a better compression could be used?
Raul
Hi Raul,
Maybe it also the place on the world you are, what make the video to hick-up. In South Africa I could have a (local) high speed connection, but most video's on youtube where not playable online:-)
In our issue queue we have an item how to solve the video problem for low speed connections. We have to give this some thought. I will add the compression to this issue.
Frans
Raul asked:

Done.
Well on the 'Project Room' overview page. If you click through to the project itself (one link is the title itself) you can still see the finished tasks.

Many thanks - and thanks to all of you, for your marvellous work: which has made all this possible.
May it empower the poor all over the globe - who have a sense of initiative and purpose: and only need a helping hand, to get started.
And may they all find this wonderful web 2.0 platform of positive change - and use it to improve the quality of their lives.
Stay blessed, "Team Ameersfoot" - and congratulations for a job, very well done, indeed: from someone who admires and likes all of of you, very much! :)
Warmest regards,
Kofi.
Hi
The first time I posted this it disappeared although the date and time of post on the task list screen did get updated. So am trying again...
Kester, the first few points are in reply to your message, as I can't add attachments to private messages...
I think those earlier-dated posts that were on the end of the Masaka discussion http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/masaka/project/task/review-masaka-appli... were added to that task as Resources. If the old site (or at least its database) still exists somewhere it should be possible to prove that?
Personally not convinced about replies appearing under their original post as could get difficult to follow on long discussions. But everyone will have their own preference on that - it would be nice to allow users to select the order for themselves at some point in the future.
Matopeni Project Room loading is faster now.
So that you can see what I mean, screen prints of the images that are shown for attachments are attached. Looks a lot better in Firefox than in IE6!
The rest of this is new.
Like everyone else, I have loads of 'what does this do'/'can we have'/'is this still being worked on' type comments. Will probably post some of these in here at some point, although am assuming that you will be producing a list of future changes sometime soon. A user guide would probably stop a lot of the questions too!!
On My Nabuur the Unread Posts list is a little difficult to use - it shows all posts back to the dawn of history as unread. Also shows external news feeds etc as well as posts to discussions, so its difficult to pick out real new village activity. Would be nice if there was a way to mark everything as read, also to select to only display certain item types. Similar comments apply to the Private Messages list.
At the bottom of My Nabuur. there is a 'new villages and groups' section. If you click More, you get screen http://www.nabuur.com/en/og which says Page Not Found
Mary
I agree, there is a backwards reference of everything imported as well, so I can probably work it out when we have a moment, and try and integrate them with the rest of the discussion (as well and displaying them separately in the resources section.
Everyone seems to have their own preferences about which order to put things in. Date, reverse date, threaded... for now we will try and work out what suits the most people as they get used to the system. In the future it would be interesting to make it possible to set your individual preferences, or at least choose them on the page.
Whoa! They're HUGE. That's certainly fixable.
Hi Mary,
Yes, there are plans for a user guide as well as a user manual for facilitators and local representatives. They'll be available very soon.
Having said this, once all little kinks are worked out, we hope the website is easy enough to navigate that a user guide is no longer required. :)
Romina
Yes this will go away after a while. It's because *all* of the posts have been marked as updated and changed as they, well were, updated and changed on the way into the new system. I guess it maybe possible to hasten this happening a bit, but either way the problem will go away.
