Hello Stanley,

Good to hear from you after such a long time !

To answer your query:

Fiscal resources? - look around among the 232 villages on nabuur. Over 95% of these villages are looking for fiscal resources. They should all be on the 'Fundraising' group on nabuur for this purpose. The solutions provided by neighbours seem to be common to all villages.

Construction? - over 60% of villages on nabuur are trying to construct a school. They all need on get on a common platform which could be titled 'Construction' under 'Groups'.

And so on ...

Stanley, these are only my suggestions. I only advise at a macro-level from the other end of the internet without any commitment of my availability or my time. The acceptance or implementation of any suggestion is entirely at the discretion of the villages. If the villages feel it suits their interests better to keep the issues alive, then there is very little advice that can work in such situations. My last post above to which you have probably referred was only copied by me from a thread on nabuur where I had posted it about 6 months back. It is not my intention to enforce implementation of any kind. I have merely copied it again since the issue of website development is being actively discussed on nabuur at present, otherwise I had forgotten all about it.

The villages also have the freedom to reject any advice !!

Best wishes

Hi Vijai,

I totally disagree with this view on villages. How will you ever Connect with a village when there's no way to leave a message?

I just wrote yesterday (Knight Newschallenge application):
"The internet enables direct connections between people anywhere in the world: to get to know each other, to share interests or to work together on a joint cause."

The NABUUR site with its villages has proven to connect people directly, and gather them to work on concrete, local issues. I do agree there must be ways to easier connect similar projects, but there's absolutely no need to turn the NABUUR villages into a static encyclopedia of local facts. Hi Pelle,

My answer to your "How will you ever Connect with a village when there's no way to leave a message?" is perhaps explained here:

http://www.nabuur.com/en/group/nabuurcom-website-development/project/tas...

and in particular, the last line in the quote below, which is part of my total post through the link above:

quote from my post-------------

- the pages of the villages can be made only for profile, information, news, etc.
- THE FACILITY OF POSTING ON VILLAGE PAGES CAN BE REMOVED
- the village pages can be edited, or updated only by the village representative or facilitator
"""- ALL POSTS BY THE VILLAGE AND NEIGHBOURS COULD BE ALLOWED 'ONLY' ON THE GROUPS PAGES, and not on the village pages """

-------------------end of quote

I further add the following:

The focus must shift to 'problem-solving' and 'solutions' on a 'mass scale', and not as 'village-by-village'. To solve 'simultaneously' any particular problem of a hundred villages, imagine a person addressing a gathering of a hundred people on the ground, and each of those hundred people benefit simultaneously. On the other hand, imagine this same person trying to address only one person at a time to solve the same common problem. It will take this person a hundred times more effort and time to explain the solution to a hundred people separately.

I agree with you where you say that the nabuur platform serves the purpose of connecting people. But if the objective is also geared towards providing solutions on a 'mass' scale, the enabling conditions for this to happen have to be first created on nabuur.

Hi Mary, Joanne, Stanley,

Concerning the Uganda network: the group of Local Reps that attended the Meet2Connect event in Kampala hasn't gathered again afterwards. I have received quite a few requests to organize a similar event though.

I know (via Paul) that there are pretty good connections between Local Reps in Eastern Uganda (Tonny, Menya, Mpoya, Paul, Moses, ...). There must be other connections that started during the event, but things are not officially organized. The most practical procedure for interested Local Reps to get in touch would still be to call Paul, I think: +256 752 655 943.

After my trip I've posted quite a few pictures on Flickr, in villages , posted a video of Masaka(rough material), which was meant to be put on the website and also wrote a few stories:

I'm not sure how many communities are located in your area. Perhaps Masaka is closest. And of course there are quite a few in and around Kampala.

Have you ever met Asuman Kaggwa from Nakyerongosa? I think you're working on similar issues.

Before doing this, find out if a few others in Uganda are interested in using it, and think about what you would use it for. There are already similar groups e.g. the Kenya meetup group which anyone can join (although its not very active) and ones for a couple of other countries (Nepal and Cameroon I think) which can only be joined by invitation as they are places where LRs in those countries share information. Groups can be public, as this one is, which means they are listed on the Groups page and anyone can join. Or they can be more restricted, meaning that members must be added or approved by the group's owner. Romina or Pelle can explain more on this, I can see the various options when I edit a group but do not know the practical details of how they are used. If you decide you do want one, you will need to ask Romina or Pelle to set it up as only Nabuur staff can do this. It would also be a good idea for one of you to volunteer to be group Owner, and also to set up some relevant tasks. Then you would need to invite others to join - it should be possible to email all the Ugandan LRs (and possibly Ugandan neighbours etc too) if staff can provide you with a mailing list. Mary [teaser] => Hi Stanley and Joanne It would be possible to set up a Ugandan group on Nabuur where you could discuss online and also as a way to organise local meetups. Hi Stanley and Joanne

It would be possible to set up a Ugandan group on Nabuur where you could discuss online and also as a way to organise local meetups.

Mary
