Find out all about NABUUR Storytelling - and get started here!

Welcome NABUUR storytellers!
In this space, you'll get a chance to learn how to write a NABUUR story, and also be able to pick and choose stories that you'd like to write.
While in your travels on the NABUUR.com website, if you see a story in development or anything else that catches your eye, let us know here too (even if you don't have time or plan to write on that particular story - we'll find someone else to take it up!). And from time to time, we'll also suggest stories and assign them to those interested in writing them.
Below is a brief how-to of NABUUR storytelling (also available as download attached to this post).
Where to find the stories?
The number of Villages and projects on NABUUR.com is expanding quickly (see here) - and so are the corresponding stories!
Stories can be found just about anywhere in a NABUUR Village: in the News tab; in the Image gallery; or in the discussion threads in the project room... If you're unsure if something will make a good story, post your suggestion in this thread and we'll help you out.
You can also find stories in the general NABUUR news tab here.
When writing a NABUUR story, please follow this format
- Each story starts with a picture.
- Each story has the name of the Village and the country mentioned.
- Each story has a catchy title, referring to the result.
- Please upload it to the news section (see how-to below).
- A NABUUR volunteer will be notified and edit the story (if needed).
- Once the editing is complete, we'll publish the story (crediting you, of course).
Please note: Stories don't necessarily have to be a certain length. If your story is featured on the NABUUR blog and it's a bit on the longer side, we'll be happy to post the story as a multi-part.
Content
Each story has the following structure:
1. The issue, the situation in the community as it was prior to the Village joining NABUUR.
2. Details of the the "result", including the process, and the role the online volunteers (Neighbours) played in it.
3. The changes/improvements brought on by the result.
Interviews
You may also want to interview a couple of the neighbours and the local representative. If you need help in getting in touch with them, let me know. (An idea would be to post a message in the discussion thread telling them you'll be covering their story; or to send them a private message to initiate the conversation.)
Who can help you write the stories?
If you need more details on a development or would like to clarify information in your story research, don't hesitate to contact the Local Representative of the Village, the Facilitator or the Neighbours. They're there to help - and expect to be contacted. If you'd like assistance in making this contact, let us know.
What do you do when you've finished writing a story?
The storytelling group and process will be as transparent as possible. When you're done writing your story:
Your story will show up in the respective village, as well as in the story section of the NABUUR News tab. We'll also use some of the stories for our blog, as well as other social network platforms, like Twitter and the NABUUR Facebook group.
To upload your story to the news section:
1. Click the News tab of the storytelling group.
2. Under the 'Create Content' heading box, click 'Create News.'
3. Fill in the following fields of the form: Title of the story, location, the teaser, the body, and upload a picture of the village corresponding to the story. (We'll worry about the other fields :))
4. Click Submit at the bottom of the page to save your story.
Ready to start?
Feel free to browse the Villages on your own. You can find a list here towards the bottom of the page. Once you click on the link leading to a country location, you'll get the list of Villages in that country - as well as a description of their project.
Another option is to do a keyword search for Villages that match your interests or preference (i.e. Education; Women's Rights; HIV/AIDS).
Once you pick a story, please post in this discussion thread. We'll keep track of who is writing what.
Alternatively, if you wish to only be assigned stories, let us know!
Need some examples before plunging in?
Attached is a storybook compiled last year. Feel free to download it and get a feel for a NABUUR story. We hope you enjoy it!
Find stories in these countries:
Africa
Burundi | Cameroon | DR of the Congo | Gambia | Ghana | Kenya | Madagascar | Mali | Morocco | Nigeria | Rwanda | Senegal | Sierra Leone | South Africa | Tanzania | Uganda | Zambia
Asia
Bangladesh | Cambodia | China | India | Nepal | Sri Lanka | Tibet
Latin America
Thank You for joining us - we're really looking forward to reading your stories and sharing them with everyone else on NABUUR.com and beyond!

Hi Debora,
If you click on each country's link you'll see a list of Villages pertaining to that country. One quick word: the majority of projects in Latin America are inactive, mainly due to reasons of language (our website isn't fully available in Spanish yet, so the Local Reps aren't able to easily access and navigate the site).
Best,
Romina
Hi Maimuna and Debora,
Great choices - thanks!
Digging for the stories can take a bit of time. I'd recommend checking over the news tab in each village, and also diving into the latest discussions. You may wish to contact the Facilitator, Local Reps and Neighbours (or maybe introduce yourself as a storyteller in the Village) as they're often great points of contact for the latest happenings in the project.
If at any time you need any assistance or aren't sure of how to proceed, don't hesitate to bring it up.
Thanks again, I hope you have fun searching for the gold nuggets. :)

Hi Sharon,
Great -thanks! If you need any assistance getting started, just let me know.
Good luck, have fun! :)
Romina
Hi Romina,
Maimuna wrote a very nice story about two friends - Muso and Simba- who are learning how to manage their sales and money. It is not exactly the story you normally see on Nabuur's home page, but it is a great leaning tool and it is written in very simple and entertaining fashion, so everybody can understand the discussed concepts- profit, time value of money, break even, investing, interest.
Is it possible to have it posted as a story from Nabuur? I already posted it in Koliyonkulam, unfortunately Jegan decided not to use it in the Evening School. I really think it will benefit greatly both students learning English in many of Nabuur's educational projects and adults that are looking to start their own business, but are not quite sure what to expect and did not have the opportunity to read more on the subject.

I'll be monitoring:
1. Senegal
2. Mali
3. Cameroon
4. Nigeria
I'll start right up!
Hi Tanja,
What a great learning resource! The story is engaging, very well written and explained, and would benefit many projects. It would be an idea to post it in the Facilitator village (if it hasn't been done so already?) for others to read and share with their own projects. While the story is excellent; it doesn't quite fit with the type of story we're featuring on the homepage. Stories on the homepage are about specific developments (results; interviews with key players, etc.) in a project or Village, and that's the format we'd like to stay with for now.
If you have any questions on this, please let me know.
Thanks :)
Romina
Hi everyone,
I know it's only been a few days but here we are, making sure that you've got everything that you need to monitor the countries you've picked out. If we can help in any way, don't hesitate to let us know.
Looking forward to seeing the first glimpses of stories from you!
:) Romina
Hi Romina,
It is a great story, is not it? Too bad the guys on Wall Street did not read it when they were kids :)) We are planning to jazz up the story with illustrations donated to Koliyonkulam by a popular children's book writer and I will post it in the Facilitator's village.

Thank you and may the almight bless you!
Hi Romina,
The monitoring is going good at my end. I just completed writing a few stories for the Village of Koliyonkulam about the kids in the HELP evening school program. The stories are to be uploaded on the helptrust.org website, but Tanja will working with you on posting them on Nabuur as well.
I am also working on completing the story on the village of Nakyerongosa. Asuman has given me some information to start with. Once that story is completed, i will post it on here and update the group.
Thanks and have a good day.

Hello John, It is unfortunate that people can't find your village, but i would advise you to join villages not only inviting friends and adding friends, in this way, you will get known and neighbors can easily locate your village. I have seen this work and i have advised a few of my neighbors and for sure it worked.
wish you the best

Hi John,
I have sent you an email on this - please check your email and get back.
(Your Village is not online yet - before your Village can go online, it needs to go through the feedback process of peers. Also, the stories in your Village need to be different. There is more information in the email - check it, please).
Thanks,
Romina
