Hi Barb
I posted some links about rainwater harvesting under the Drinking Water task http://www.nabuur.com/en/group/water-and-sanitation/project/task/drinkin... a while ago, and I am sure others have too.

Hey,
Check out this page.. Rainwater Harvesting Community Forum
It's a pretty cool community specifically for rainwater / grey water harvesting. You can post any questions that you have and get some pretty speedy answers...
At my previous workplace, they started the Rainwater Harvesting Implementation Network: http://rainfoundation.org
Thanks Mary, Rolf, Mr. Tank and Rain Man. These are great tips and resources.

The volunteer position is as an educational adviser for Rural
University, our course development center in India. The server for
them is http://ruralu.org. They are applying for accreditation in
India and need overseers with academic credentials.
In the United States, we operate as an Independent Study Resource
only. We do not confer degrees here. Our units in South Africa,
Nigeria and India will receive degrees from the India office once
accreditation is acquired. It is important that we have feedback and
criticism from qualified independent educators like your self.
Thanks for making this possible.

I am associated with water issues in India. I would love to be of use for giving information on rainwater harvesting.
hi barb
good initiative
discussion about waterharvesting is going on in several villages, and instead of starting the discussion new in each village, we can just find all in the water group!
the forums and sites posted so far look usefull.
in our village we have a six months dry period, we want to harvest the rainwater from the roofs of 2 warehouses (500 sq meter total), store that and use that in the dry season. There are enough ideas out on the web on how to do it. what i am really interested in is to share experiences with people who have build such tanks: know the dos and donts of construction, get grip on the maintenance costs of a system. If such things are out on the web i would love to know.
If not we can start it here and i can share my experiences while we are building our system

thanks rain man,
on the site i found a calculator for rainwater harvesting
http://www.wahaso.com/aboutwaterharvesting/calculator.asp
the calculator is nice for first world users. does anybody know whether there is something similar for third world users? (long dry spells, lower water consumption, no flush toilets)
agromisa has published a lot of useful booklets on agricultural development
like this agrodok 43 on rainwater harvesting

Hi Machiel,
The hope is exactly what you ask - that people from all villages will share their experiences. As you say there is lots of information on the web, but it is the sharing of knowledge and experience in actually applying the information that is the most helpful.
Does anyone have any tips on building rainwater tanks that has some advice for Machiel? If so, please share them here.
