Obtaining resources for the training programmes

Status: In progress
Step:
7

The need here is to help Alex with obtaining resources for the training programmes particularly equipment as detailed in Phase 1 of the Business plan for computers, chairs, desks, technical equipment, for teaching aids in building, carepentry, tailoring, IT. It would also be very helpful to help obtain a laptop for Alex to help him manage the programme. What is required here is for neighbours to approach organisations to help with this and try to make agreements directly with them for obtaining the equipment and getting it to Uganda.

Hello Richard & Mary,

I posted in the discussion 'work with alex to plan the training programmes'. I find it a little confusing what that Task is about while this discussion is on the resources for the training program. Richard maybe you can explain that to me.

As I posted in the other Task about the training program....

I do know of a Dutch organisation "gered gereedschap" (which means 'saved tools') that can provide sewing machines, building and carpentry tools for the training program. I have added information about them and a questionnaire that you can fill in to apply for those materials. (important Q: Do you want electric or non-electric machines....this is fairly important, because if you don't have electricity and you get electric machines, there of no use to you and the project!)

They also arrange transport to the country where it needs to go. Only you have to pay for the final overland transport I think. If you need help in filling in the questionnaire, let me know! You can use Nabuur as a Dutch reference, including my name.

Secondly a tip for you: It is possible for charities, NGO's and CBO's to get a 'waver of taxes' letter from the government so that you do not have to pay taxes for goods that you receive. Maybe you can check this with the department of customs in your Uganda.

Actually, I am now back on my feet - and working in double harness, with my alter ego (my favourite four-legged pal)! Well, Alex is doing a terrific job - and I admire his tenacity of purpose. Its a real coup he got the 5 computers. Can you tell us, precisely who the good samaritans were? I think it is always nice to let such donors know, that they have actually been acknowledged publicly, on www.nabuur.com. It does foster a sense of 'kinship' with the online platform - ensuring that they actually come to regard www.nabuur.com, as partners in the development and empowerment, of poor rural communities. Thank you so much, once again, Richard. And I acknowledge receipt of your e-newsletter: and thank you for same! The very best wishes to Alex, too - and all Adyaka's neighbours: both online at www.nabuur.com and on the ground, in beautiful Uganda, the "Pearl of Africa!" Warmest regards, Kofi. Hello Richard,

Thank you so much for your kind thoughts.
