Work with Alex to review the content of th etraining programmes to confirm which is best fro Adyaka's needs

Dear Brenda,

Thanks you for all your endavour in bringing up the community of the adyaka village.I have made my best to do all that you have discussed in your postings above, but unfortunately i have no response so far. :-(

It would be important to hear from you about any othetr development that we can cause fro this unfortunate community of adyaka.

However ,we have a good news to u all,we have got a donation of 5 computers from one of the welwishers based in kampala and we may need to start utilizing the computers right away.we plan to have a internet cafe as a sustainability business. :-D

All your ideas towards this is highly welcomed.

Blessings

Adyaka that is something than nothing - now regarding the five computers i think you will need a server that is strong so that when you set a cyber you will be able to generate a good profit margin...before we deepen that, what are the specifications of the computer?

Another thing you have to do a feasibility study for the cyber (don't think of a flooded place at all)and think of a resource bank in terms of having a bookshelf for references and the kind of services you will offer using the computers aprt from guyz just coming and browsing and i believe that will be your market niche.

Hello Enon,

I am completely impressed about your commitment and energy for the project, this is the way to go, it is really cool working with you. you are quick, commited and you work effectively, i have to find a way to catch up with your speed and level of energy!

GTZ in Uganda seems to be busy folks, I have not received any information from them yet! I advise you to call them directly in their offices in their capital office in Kampala. Then you can also establish direct links to them.

I forwarded the adresses of the resonsibles from ILO in Uganda, Addis (?), Darussalam and my ILO friend from Germany to your private mail address. Has this been successful so far? If not tell me which support you still need!

Nest week will be holidays in China, I can take some time to source meaningful shareware online. i am convinced that manuals and training material for HIV/ AIDS Programmes and life skills are at least available for free. with some specialities as applied computer/information technologie i am not sure, i will find out by end of next week.

I also want to refer back to the needs analysis which i suggested earlier with potential employers from the local community. I suggest to have a close eye at the local labour market. Vocational skills increase is for the purpose to earn a living, we need to find out which skills are demanded from local employers. otherwise we train people to develop skills which they can not use to make a living. I believe we should prevent this. can we open a new activity and find local representatives to take over this task's responsability?

what about a telephone call via skype, I believe this is more effective than one way email communication, for purpose of documentation we can still write our summary of discussion into the public forum. I also suggest that we find a suitable solution regarding the cross communication between private mail and public forum. If people want to step into the unfolding process they will only see half of our conversation - the rest is in our private mail box... i will from now on paste relevant info from our private conversation into the public forum.

keep well my friend, and hope to hear from you very soon.

Enon,

please check out the ppublications website at GTZ, it is a gold mine. the link goes

http://www2.gtz.de/publikationen/isissearch/
publikationen/Search.aspx?table=default&language=en

you can also find it via the GTZ homepage www.gtz.de

you will find manuals and training material for what we talked about earlier as well as documents for establishment of vocational training and education institutions.

If you are interested also check out the village "Aber" in Nabuur, they plan a similar project in Uganda.

This might help

Dear Quany,

Thanks for the postings,I have considered all that you have discussed in your postings but only that am requesting you to help me and register me with skype for effective phone communication, then you only give me the passward and the login number. This is because i have tried to join it by my self but in vain.

We submitted our proposal to feed the minds in the uk and we are awaiting the boards sittings in MARCH,so LETS stay tuned. :-D

Enon,

I opened up a skype account for you and Adyaka, skype will sent the relevant info to your Email asdress.

The skype name: adyaka1
password: enon

For usage of skype you need to download the skype software on your conputer. the address is

www.skype.com

I added my skype contact already, we can easily add other adyaka neighbour to skype who have a skype account for purpose of direct communication. we can also do conference calls, e.g. you, richard and me could telephone in the same time together via skype, and it is for free!

Please let me know if you have any queries. If everthing works out we can try to chat or telephone via skype next week when we have holidays here in china, lets say wednesday of thursday?

All the best

Many thanks for all your hard work and sourcing of information which is very helpful. Do you think that it would be posssible for you to see if GTZ would be able to help Adyaka in relation to a proposal which we could develop in the context of any area that would interest them taken from within the Business plan ? If in broad terms they would be prepared to do so then I think that it would only be sensible to ask if :

- you could identify areas that they might be prepared to help with
- we could then identify a specific approach to GTZ dependent on their response

That would be a great help. I am sure that you would be the right person to do this as you are based :-) in Germany and speak German .

Please do let me and Enon Alex know if you are happy to try this .

Best wishes

Richard

Dear all,

below please find the mail from GTZ regarding my inquiry on best practices on TVET insitution practices. GTZ in general supports a certain number of projects on a region, which are more formalized and already concluded with the Ugandan ministry in charge of international development cooperation. So I assume that it will be difficult to get support from GTZ outside of this scheme. GTZ is interesting for experience exchange since they have lots of lessons learned and best practices in the field on TVET development and development projects in general. In addition they are in a network with other development insitutions. I therefore suggest the following. Our local representatives might read through the GTZ documents to figure out, whether of not GTZ Uganda experience and area of work can be a guidance for the set up of the adyaka center. Then I suggest, that Enon or another local representative directly communicate with GTZ Uganda, with a clearer idea in mind on development support from GTZ, based on the information from the documents they send to us. I believe this is a great opportunity to link our local represenetatives directly to development organizations. Enon, please keep me informed about further support you need in this regard.

We might can get a funding from the German Embassy in Kampala, they had a funding scheme for small development projects in South Africa, I will check this our for Adyaka.

I suggested in one of my former posting to communicate to another village on Nabuur from Uganda which is called Aber. They share the same development goals with Adyaka. These projects could create synergies by sharing their knowledge and experience on building up a center like this.

Concerning coputer lobbing: I have an idea to lobby for this from Ugandan and regional companies, who would like to get rid of second hand or partly defect computers. As I understood the center is interested to develop an IT curricula. This might be a chance for the pupils also to learn how to repair old computers. Is there something like a company register for Uganda? I am hereby thinking of the chambers of commerce, which support international enterprises. As in one of my former post mentioned, I suggest to contact them for funding (through a corporte social responsability scheme???) or donation, as well as for internship opportunities, etc. They can also be helpful to gear our curricula towards real demand from the local industry.

And a final idea: In one of the programmes I worked before we used an Excel sheet to systematically document all activities in one list. This list has been updated for our weekly team meetings areas were: Current state of affairs, nest steps, responsibles, deadline, etc. This gave us a great overview above the entire progress of the programme. Could this be something for Adyaka?

All the best from Frankfurt

Quan-Minh

Dear Quan-Minh Chau,
In response to your request to Mr. Thomas Schild on 17/01/08, about the need for best practices to establish a school for the war affected children and refugees, attached are two documents:

1. a summary of our concluded Local Skills Development (LSD) pilot project, a non formal skills development approach and
2. an overview of our HIV/AIDS mainstreaming activities

LSD has proven to be an effective way of equipping masses with market-driven skills in a cost effective way. It can be a centre-based or an outreach skills training project that makes use of locally available resources. Besides the technical skills, it also equips learners with soft skills (Life skills) to ensure a dignified life for participants.

We thank you for your interest and hope that the two documents will be of assistance to you and the Adyaka Community. We kindly request you to forward the attached documents to Mr Alex Enon and Robert Priestley.

Thank you,

Kind regards,
