Dear Neighbours,
I asked Gladys some questions to become more familiar with the project. I wanted to share her answers with you.
First I would like to know what your dreams are for the future of the school, what do you want to offer the children?
My dreams for the school are that the school turns out children will be independent in future. The immediate one is for them to be able to carry out certain basic everyday life activities on their own such as brushing their teeth, bathing and dressing, and feeding with little or no supervision. Also certain house chores like washing dishes, sweeping etc. As time goes on gardening and livestock rearing ( small animals like poultry and rabbits which will also keep them busy.
Secondly depending on the extent of their disability and what they have been trained on vocational skills, they can engage in income generating ventures like weaving, etc. The gardening and livestock rearing mentioned can become income generating ventures as well.
The school is not a boarding one. It is my hope it will be made one so that the training can be more effective.
Can you tell me more about the group of children who are visiting the school?
The school roll is 22
The youngest child is 5yr and the oldest 25yr
A few of the children have the following additional handicaps ;
1) Down Syndrome
2)Cerebral palsy
3) Autism
The school is for both girls and boys
There is only one severe case
Other disabilities are mobility, sight & speech problems
Do you want to encourage parents to bring their mentally disabled child(ren) to the school?
Yes I want to encourage parents to bring their children to school
Can you tell me more about the school and the school program?
Lessons are Self help skills daily,Daily living skills & motor skills
Its goal ; There is a plan for transition to the world of work as the school’s future plan
There is need for therapies but facilities are not available
There are 4 teachers; 2 trained and 2 untrained teachers
Materials available in the school are; writing materials, footballs, puzzles, memory cards, dominos, skipping rope.
Can you tell me more about the school building?
The school building is made up of two large classrooms, a long well ventilated corridor & a three- seater toilet ( KVIP)
The school shares premises with a regular school and so it has a common playground with that school.
What are your needs for the bus?
The bus will meet many needs; sending children to and from school, sending the sick to hospital and also for excursions which are very essential in their rehabilitation.
A 32 or 22 seater bus which is disabled friendly
What are the resources you can offer volunteers?
Looking at the conditions involved in keeping volunteers the school does not have the resources to do that now.
How is the school funded at the moment?
The school is funded by the government of Ghana but sometimes friends donate indoor games or give financial assistance.

Hello Everyone,
I have been invited to participate in 'ISWI' international student week in illmenaue,i need a form of financial aid or scholarship.Any recommendation is welcomed.Counting on the community.
Hello team
I am joining this team and will try to identify sources of free study material. One issue is that I will have to look outside my own country as I presume (I have asked to validate) that materials have to be in English
