Hi,
I would like to volunteer as a writer-editor for your cause. I went through your website and I think you guys are doing a great job. I have always wanted to volunteer to help make this world a better place; and can't think of a better way than to render my writing/editing skills.
I have more than 2 years of experience. You can see my published (written) articles on http://samarpitamukherjee.blogpost.com.
While I am more keen on editing/reviewing; I would also like to assist with writing.
Currently I am reviweing publications for the US Air Force.
'Hoping to hear from you real soon.

Hi Samarpita!
It is great to hear from you. In terms of writing/editing, at the present time there is not much written information. St. Charles Special Needs School has a website that Lotte created located here:
www.ghanahelp.weebly.com
One of our project tasks is to work on developing a disability awareness program. For this, we will likely need assistance with both writing and editing. You will find this task listed in the Project Room of this village.
I also wanted to point out that Nabuur has a special group that writes stories for all of the Nabuur villages. This group is located here:
http://www.nabuur.com/en/group/storytelling
You may want to check that one out as well. Thank you for your kind offer of assistance.
Warm regards-
Jennifer

Hello everyone-
It has been some time since I have been able to provide you with an update on what is happening with the Atulibabsi village. I am happy to report that I was able to connect with Gladys today in chat. She has been very busy, but tells me that the children started back to school approximately 2 weeks ago and so far everything is going well.
Volunteers
You will notice that we removed the task about locating volunteers. After some discussion, Gladys indicated that it would be best to remove this task, as the school does not wish to be advertising and requesting volunteers come to their school. Volunteers can ask the school themselves and may be granted permission to come, but unfortunately at this time due to the school being government run, there is really not much else we can do to convince them to change their position. That task was closed today.
Transportation
The remaining tasks in the village do reflect the current needs and priorities at the school. Gladys indicated that she and the parent group believe that transportation is the #1 issue facing the school today. The government has told them that they are prioritizing funds to provide transportation and that the regular schools will be provided assistance first. This is very unfortunate for the children, but I have encouraged Gladys to continue to focus on growing and expanding the parent group. This group, if strengthened, could gain substantial influence in the local community by supporting the rights of people with disabilities as well as supporting other parents with children who are disabled. As we all know, when people stand together in support of one another about a particular issue-they can influence change. I have explained to Gladys that I do believe we have offered all that we can here at Nabuur in relation to researching a vehicle. The school is government run and as such, the best way forward seems to be supporting the parent group in their quest to get them (the government) to provide a bus for the school. If anyone has other thoughts on how to best approach this issue, we would love to hear your ideas.
Promoting Disability Awareness
Gladys was very inspired by the story posted by Ranjana, the local rep of the Sadhana village about "Parenting the Disabled." She hopes that the parent group will be able to arrange something similar in Ghana for the local community parents who need this type of assistance. In Ranjana's village, physiotherapists have been volunteering their time to work with rural parents who never knew how to work with their child because of that child's disability. The therapists are working to set goals and define individualized rehabilitation programs that the parents can do at home to help the children learn basic activities of daily living. If you have other ideas about raising disability awareness in the local community-please feel free to share them with us in the designated task above.
Securing Teaching and Learning Materials
We need your ideas about school supplies and learning materials for the students as well as items that could be used by the teachers in their classrooms. Remember, this is a small school with less than 25 students, so if we join hands together, I am certain that we can come up with donations that will help them.
Let's make this a positive and productive year of learning for the students at St. Charles Special Needs School!
We look forward to hearing from you-
Jennifer
