Buchanan Starts New School Year

Our school in Africa, Help Liberia Foundation Community School, has begun the 2009/2010 school year.

The opening ceremony, which was held at the school few weeks ago, brought together scores of old and new students, as well staff members. The Principal of the school, Mr. Samuel Nimely, welcomed the students and the staff and wished them a happy and successful school year.

Although the kids and the staff are happy to return, the torrential rains are posing a serious problem for all. The heavy rains cause many of the children not to go to school on time, or not to go out and play during recess. It is also reported that, at times, the rain water sets around the building, which takes time to dry out.

In spite of this, the students and staff are determined to have a wonderful academic year. In fact, the first period test will be administered later this month. At present, there are 128 students in the school – 59 boys and 69 girls.

We wish to thank all our sponsors for helping many of the children to get their education through the sponsorship program. It is because of their help that these children are able to go to school.

Meanwhile, we are still looking for sponsors for the kids who do not have any support. We encourage all who wish to sponsor a child in the school to visit our website at www.help-liberia.org and choose from the list on the sponsorship page. The foundation may also be contacted for more information.
