Stop malaria! Rescue people's life! Save the village!
Perceived causes of malaria are:
Heavy bushes surrounding the village,
Stagnant waters,
Lack of insecticides such as “Doom” etc.,
Lack of mosquito nets,
Lack of medicine,
Lack of education among the people how to prevent and treat malaria,
Lack of information and training.
Lack of awareness up to date camapins and positive examples are one of the reasons that not much prevention takes place. The basic solution of the problem should be a sucessfully created and leaded project that has been already written.
Since Busukuma has no social center, the project will entail door to door visits training families on how to prevent and control malaria, as well as will teach them what they may do on their own to fight the problem.
Therefore, for the project to be successful, training materials, trainers and teachers, mosquito nets, medicines, other related materials and support is needed.

Dear Colleagues
I am not sure that I am writing this in the right place ... I have already posted somewhere else ... and have no idea where it was! So this is a repeat!

It is good that you have been able to obtain bednets ... or is it mosquito curtains ... for use against malaria in Busukuma. I hope they will work, and help to reduce the burden of malaria in your community.
My study of malaria control over the past few years suggests that bednets will help the persons using the bednets ... but do almost nothing for everyone else in the community. This is better than nothing, but not a full solution by any means.
There are about 10 different things that should be going on at the same time in order to have a sustainable successful program ... exactly what you need to do depending on the actual situation in the village.
I am happy to advise ... to the extent that I am able ... and help the community to help itself. How bad is malaria in Busukuma? Is it year round, or just during the few months of the rainy season? What sort of health clinic do you have ... if any? How far is it? What staff does it have? Where can you get anti-malarial drugs? What sorts of drugs are on sale ... being prescribed? How much is being charged? Any tests for malaria being done? Any data about the mosquito population? About breeding places? Any efforts to control the mosquitoes? Larvacidng? Adulticiding? Is there any interior residual spraying (IRS)? If so what chemical is being used? How frequent the spraying? Do you use DDT for IRS? Lots of questions ... all important to get a sustainable program for your community!
Sincerely
Peter Burgess

Please tell me more about the stagnant waters. Can someone show children how to identify mosquito eggs, larvae and pupae? Can someone show them how to do larvaciding to kill the eggs/larvae/pupae before they become adult flying mosquitoes? A compound for larvaciding is called Bti ... it is based on a bacterium that is toxic to mosquitoes but almost nothing else ... and it can be made locally!
Please ask questions ... I will try to answer
