Biogas plant

The piglets have all now been bought and the pig house almost finished. In a few months we are to have 70-80 piglets which will also mature soon. We need to find ways of disposing waste and the only healthy and enviromental way is biogas production. The biogas will be used for lighting and cooking pig food.

We have contacted Heifer international Uganda, and they have quoted us as follows.

The 12cubic metre biogas plant 2.4 ugs million ($1227.64)

Cost of a Double plate burner is 85,000 ($43.48)

Cost of lamp is 110,000 ($56.27)

They can also link us with a technician or have one trained for the cost of 200,000 Ushs to 300,000 Ugshs. They will confirm this cost with the upcoming 12 day training.

The overall cost is very expensive for us to manage on our own, therefore request for any assistance, financial or otherwise in order to keep the costs down. Step by step instruction Dvd's, manuals on how to construct a biogas plant are welcome.

Thanks Vijai, interesting design thou still need to learn how to do it step by step as even though we hire experienced builders they cant do it if they have never built a bio gas plant.

You are right, Joanne. The gases released in the process are combustible and leaks can be explosive. It will be necessary for you to locate a mason in your region who has actually made such plants in your region. You must also contact the owners of those plants to gather feedback on performance. On the internet you can only gain some knowledge about the concept, and in this case, this knowledge will not be enough to create this plant on the ground.

However, the cement alone required costs slightly below the $400. its not a domestic one as we are looking to the near future as the pigs multiply alot and to benefit more from the business, we need to keep quite afew pigs to adulthood for sale. Good idea about the toilet, been looking at a pic of such a setting but then the more complex technically it gets for amatuers. We will see as still seeking some help on ground too, hopefully we find a kind specialist / technician. However, the cement alone required costs slightly below the $400. its not a domestic one as we are looking to the near future as the pigs multiply alot and to benefit more from the business, we need to keep quite afew pigs to adulthood for sale. Good idea about the toilet, been looking at a pic of such a setting but then the more complex technically it gets for amatuers. We will see as still seeking some help on ground too, hopefully we find a kind specialist / technician. Will let you know how it all goes.

En nuestra region empleamos biodigestores de plastico que son muy baratos y muy eficientes, los gases producidos se pueden emplear en cocinas sencillas y su quemador tampoco es costoso, adicional a esto puedes tener otras alternativas como ensilaje del estiercol del cerdo para alimentacion de bovinos y peces y las mismas cerdas, sumado a esto trabajar con plantas controladoras d eolores y gases, ademas de plantas trampa para moscas y otros insectos.Si les interesa lwes puedo enviar diseños y forma de instalarlos, espero les pueda servir .
