Thu, 2009/10/15 - 04:43 —
Hi Nabuurs!
We've had the excellent support from 2 volunteers who have been committed to drafting the blueprints for our higher school project. Please see the attached drawings and give your comments.
Thanks,
Anna

Thank you Anna for sharing the blueprints, looks great! Any plans to include solar panels somehow on the roofs?
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I don't think we've discussed solar panels at this point. Although it is a great idea and could probably be very beneficial, I don't think they're in our budget. We're working on modest funds as it is. Unless there is some way to have them donated....but I'm not sure what that could be.

I think solar panels are definitely worth considering, even if you are on a small budget. A small solar system (radio, several lights, mobile phone charging) should cost between 200 and 300 USD, which you will earn back within 2 years, as you dont have to buy gasoline or other fuel to keep generators going. A solar panel is also much safer than fire/candle light and if someone on the site gets trained in the maintenance of the panel, you do not need outside expertise after installing it.
To power radios, lights, etc you do not need solar panels. DIY little solar panels are available and work wonderfully. US$2 or so. I am not home so I cannot email the info but anyone who wants it I can post later if requested. There are solar lanterns, etc. Graham Knight in England will help free. Even send samples.
