Assist in the creation of a 'Buterere Conference'

Our local representative and his team in Burundi have developed the idea to host a conference or a workshop in Buterere. The purpose of this will be to promote our higher learning school as well as to create a curriculum for courses. It will give youth, students, doctors, professors, etc to contribute to the development of this school and to share ideas and knowledge.
Jean-Claude writes:
We will need finances to cover some expenses:
- Fanta or lemonade during pause
- Transportation of Doctors/Professors
- pay for a Conference Room
At the conference we will think about: UNIVERSITY ACCREDITION with International Universities
If we manage to organize a conference (Design currucula), we will find financial resources from
UNESCO- I know and have spoke with key responsibles.
[Once the finances are secured]:
We will ask volunteers to start MARKETING the conference, Flyers
(from informations that they find in school report),...**report can be found at:
http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/buterere/project/task/create-journalblo...
-We will try to find money for that conference: Maybe ask volunteers
to work on MASSMAIL: search in google NGOs which can sponsor a
Conference for our project.
-Ask donation AND interest (may be volunteers can be interested to
donate for our conference, but it is not prefered to ask them to
donate), to view our report and contribute.
CONFERENCE: It will take place in Hotel Novotel where we can pay (approx) 150 USD for a room with music instrument
-We will invite 10 Doctors in Burundi to come join our professors to
help them develop Currucula
-We will invite 50 students in Universities, 10 granduated and 40
Journalists to come assist Dr. when they draft Currucula.
-We will start marketing to ask Professors and Doctors in Burundi,
Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and everybody who want and who can
pay for his hotel, his Airticket or Bus to join us in Burundi and we
will cover FOOD and accomodation.
So, if we have 700 USD we will be able to host this event in this
manner of working.

This should give everyone a good idea about what we are trying to achieve. Any advice, input, feedback, and assistance will be greatly appreciated. Please contact me or Jean-Claude for more information.

Please see the attached document and scroll to (approximately) page 3 for detailed information on the proposed Conference. After reading please share your thoughts, comments, etc. All are welcome.
Currently we need volunteers to work in groups to research and find potential sponsors or possible groups/individuals who might like to attend this conference. Once we have 700USD secured, we will begin to contact these individuals or groups with information about the conference.

We are still seeking financial support ($500-$700) to get this conference started. Does anyone have any suggestions about where we can go for support?

From Jean-Claude:
"It would be really very appreciable if we could achieve a task of fundraising 500-700 USD for this conference. The participants will edit statuts, Academic Charter and courses. They will also adopt them and do election of Staff committee members.
If we don't do that in a conference, our project will not be approved by the Ministry of Education and UNESCO in Burundi. "
Please help!!!

Hi Anna
I really don't have the skills or time to get involved, but are you talking about setting up university-level courses using a mix of local study in Burundi, and online courses?
If so, have a look at PEOI as they may be able to assist with the online pard. http://www.peoi.org/index.html
They appear to have a well-established volunteer team, as some of them won a UN Volunteers award last year.
Mary
Hi Mary,
Well...the LR for Buterere has been working very had with community members (volunteers, professionals, professors, doctors, etc) to create a higher learning school for those in the community without the access to funds, transportation, etc to achieve a higher education. The school is a mix of online/in class learning, secondary school, college prep, and university level courses. Its still in progress, but finally things are coming together.
Thanks for the link - I'll definitely keep this in mind as things start to come together more.
