World Environmental Day 2009 and Climate Change .Have your say!

This Friday 5 June 2009, is World Environmental Day.
Local people in Butikiro in partnership with SLINT-Uganda and neigbours of Butikiro will celebrate the day by making a posting on Climate Change and Food Security.
The posting is in line with this year's World Environmental Day theme and fits well the Fruit and Vegetable Growing for Sustainable Livelihoods Project as one of the poverty eradication initiatives in relation to climate change.
You are invited to make your personal statement and posting herein as a means to showcase your commitment towards celebrating this day.
Act now and not tomorrow. Climate change is affecting your life, family and future generations!
Sincerely,
Denis Marsha

Dear Neighbours,
I truely, thank you for joining us in highlighting the challenges we are facing and destinated to face as a result of climate change. Today was World Environmental Day. In Uganda like many other low developing countries this day means alot to many people especially the poor, farmers, women and children among others.
It is a day to say no to environmental degradation, food insecurity and poverty. It is a day to say no to disease!
Developing practices to sustain our environment and the resource base on which our livelihoods depend is key to promoting sustainable livelihoods and good quality life.
The guests who have taken off time to visit our village and read our postings, thank you.
Kind regards,
Denis Marsha Kabuuka

Butikiro Village and its neighbours stood up and recognised the World Environmental Day on 5 June 2009.
The theme for WED 2009 was 'Your Planet Needs You-UNite to Combat Climate Change'.
A number of postings on climate change were posted by neighbours including Mr. Ken Hargesheimer. These reflected the links with overcoming poverty and sustainable crop growing practices such as no till and bucket drip irrigation farming systems.
Sustainable Livelihoods International Uganda (SLINT-Uganda) posted an article as one of the activities to celebrate and commit ourselves to reversing the daunting effects of and adaptation to climate change.
SLINT-Uganda also posted the same article to the Uganda National Newspaper of the New Vision for possible publication. I am happy to note that the article was published on 10 June 2009 as attached herewith in.
Thank you for your contributions.
