Friday June 5 2009 is World Environment Day.

Butikiro Village and its neighbours would like to stand up and recognise and celebrate this day.

The theme for WED 2009 is 'Your Planet Needs You-UNite to Combat Climate Change'.

It reflects the urgency for nations to agree on a new deal at the crucial climate convention meeting in Copenhagen some 180 days later in the year, and the links with overcoming poverty and improved management of forests.

SLINT-Uganda is partner in UNEP's Billion Tree Campaign Initiative.As well it is a partner in promoting initiatives to overcome poverty.

The 50 farmers households in Butikiro through the Fruit and Vegetable growing for sustainable livelihoods project are demonstrating their commitment to climate change on several fronts. The project aims to overcome poverty, food insecurity while adapting to climate change effects.

A statement article will be developed and placed herein as one of the important steps of celebrating and commiting ourselves to reversing the daunting effects of and adaptation to climate change.
