Hi Walude- is there a downloadable version of the newsletter for reading and commenting on? I can't read the version you have posted as it is too small
Thanks! Carolyn
Hi
An eligible version of the newsletter is now attached. I had to break-up the pages into jpeg and submit as seperate files. If there is a better way of doing it in future i will appreciate.

Hi Walude,
Have you tried with PDF? You can now use these photos and put them in a PDF as one document, I believe it would be readable. When you open PDF there is "Create PDF" option, and you choose "From multiple files", then with "Browse" you attach all these docs and arrange them in a proper order. It should look good.
Best,
Sonja
Here it is. Looks fine, but it would be good to have photos with better resolution, now it's a bit blurred.
Cheers!
Hi Sonja,
I have the newsletter in pdf but can not load it as an image. I have also tried to attach it as a file but the process ends before the loading is complete. May be you could help explain how i can manage to upload a pdf file on nabuur. I have several other documents (including old posters) that i have failed to upload this way.

Hi all,
I managed to upload the content in pdf after I discovered the trick of attaching pdf as a file and not an image. In addition i accessed an internet connection that was efficient.
I will now be able to share other documents that are in PDF
I hope you will enjoy reading this issue as we await your feedback on layout and content.
We would also like to recieve guidance on how one could use a newsletter for fundraising????

Hi Walude- great job on the July newsletter! I took a look at it and have some feedback for you.
1- It's too long! I know there is a lot to say but in order to get the clear messages across- you need to write shorter pieces. I usually will take time to read most of a newsletter for a group that I am interested in. e.g- i receive an e-newsletter from Medicine San Frontiers and I read most of it each time because I am really interested. However, if I am not that keen- I will only skim over the main points, headings etc and decide which little bits I will pay attention to. Most people are time-poor so you need to catch their attention.
2- Use of simple yet striking titles is always helpful in getting people's atention. The use of photo's and colour also helps.
3- I like the "special points of interest" next to each article- it helps people decide whether they will read it or not.
4- Decide what 'tense' you are using. In one of the articles it is writen "the second meeting on Zero waste..was held at...Township today". This is using present tense however the newsletter is meant to retrospective. Little things like that just help the reader along- keep it consistant.
5- Keep long descriptions to a minimum. Eg in the article NICRAD Volunteers Mobolize youths.... the descriptions of each step are too long and you will lose the reader if they get confused. I found that article frustrating. Short sharp sentences help the reader along.
Who is the intended audience for this newsletter?
In relation to fundraising via a newsletter- I did a brief Google search and there seem to be a number fo sites that can provide advice. I found this quote which I thought might be useful to keep in mind:
'Fundraising is not the art of asking but the art of communication that includes asking. Thanks!A Guide to Donor-Centered Fundraising, by Penelope Burke.
I also read another quote that said a good e-newsletter is a way of extending the footprint of a good website. Agreed!!
Best wishes
Carolyn
Hi Carolyn,
Thank you so much for this instant and important feedback that points out key issues that need to be addressed in the subsquent issues of the newsletter. It appears we will need a newsletter editor to help us attain the quality needed and most importantly enable us attain our goal of fundraising through a newsletter.
Probably a monthly newsbulletin might have little less interesting information as it focuses on the process while, a quarterly one may have sufficient information as it may focus on the outcomes and impact. Introducing a topic on policy analysis may also make the newletter handsome, i hope. We will have to decide the one that will be circulated widely to key decision makers.
If a neighbour is willing to volunteer as an editor, he or she is most welcome, just contact us.

Hi walude,
I actually just received an e-newsletter from MSF and I noticed at the bottom it has a DONATE NOW button. When I click it, it takes me to their webpage which allows for on-line donations- but also gives details of who to call etc if I want to donate.
Linking the newsletter to your website is a good idea and is an effective way of driving traffic there as well.
My other suggestion re fundraising through the newsletter is to be very specific about what you are raising funds for ( if possible). Gives me an intention with their donation
Carolyn
Hi Carolyn,
Thank you so much for providing further information on the importance of linking an e-newsletter to our website. It appears we need a newsletter editor that should also help us to improve our website.

Hi Walude- I will put my hand up to edit the newsletter- as long as I don't have to write it! :) I'm happy to help where I can. Have you decided on the frequency of the newsletter? Also I am hopeless with design so is there a newsletter template?
Carolyn
Dear Carolyn,
Thank you very much for this noble offer. We at Beyogerere village are excited about your offer to support the documentation process and will do every thing in our reach to ensure we support you to do an excellent job.
We will certainly be writing the first draft and you will do the finishing the format is the one we have to agree on. I have a format on desk top publishing that i use to enter raw information and i am wondering whether it would be fine for us to continue working with it.
If we produce the newsletters on a montly and quarterly basis will that be too much work for you? The monthly newsletter would be sent out electronically while the quarterly one would have to be sent out with print outs.

Hi Walude- I'll use my editing task as an opportunity to learn more about waste management!
If the first Newsletter template is agreeable then we should continue to use that. I found it easy to read - as long as we make the text enticing and clear etc.
Can I ask why you are thinking of sending out a paper version of the newsletter? Who is your intended recipient? If it's the same group who received the e-newsletter then is there a reason why you feel they need a paper version? Just curious....and also conscious that this could become quite costly for NICRAD,
Carolyn
