Publicity Plan for the Waste Mop-Up Campaign

Status: Needs urgent help
Time needed:
Two weeks or more
Step:
2

Good publicity can help raise awareness about an event and gain more sponsorship. There are a few simple steps to take to ensure that everything is done to get the maximum amount of coverage.

Bweyogerere village is warming-up to implement its first event, The Waste Mop-up Campaign, over the quarter of July-Sept 2009. The event has three components:
(i) The zero waste football tournament between existing youth clubs,
(ii) The Waste Mop-up Week for cleaning trash at existing waste dumps by youth clubs and
(iii) The Great Zero-Waste Marathon by youths and interested atheletes.

The first two tasks can only be implemented after RECIEVING DONATIONS from shops dealing in sports equipmnt and factories/companies that deal in plastics. The last task will be obtained through SPONSORSHIP from individuals in the community, commercial enterprises and SUPPORT from mobile telephone companies to organise the great zero-waste marathon.

The tasks attached constitute a schedule that has been used to compile a draft publicity plan which is now inserted into the start-up discussion thread below. The draft plan has lements that still require technical support (marked TASK).

If you would like to be part of the publicity team, please join us and indicate the task(s) you would wish to help. Feel free to suggest additional tasks that couldadd value to the publicity plan.

Hi all,

Thanks for appreciating the sign posts in the threads above. Credit will go to the graphic artist and the youths who created the content.

We have however realized they were not suiting the purpose of providing the instructions near a compost pit and have therefore changed their content. We have also indicated how the signposts will be used at existing waste dumps.

The signpost will simply be planted by the youth(as shown in the picture)at an existing waste dump and residents will be asked to construct a composit pit within an agreed time frame (preferably within the week of mop-up. The residents will seek for permission from the landlord before doing so. If this doesnt happen, the sign post will be removed and the matter reported to higher authorities.

Hi Eric,

You are very welcome to Bweyogerere village. Thak you very much for appreciating the content on the banners. During matching, the each youth club will be holding a banner of their choice and we will add the name of their club on that banner. In this way they will start advocating for change in their community.

I realize you are also working with youths in your village but focusing on HIV-AIDS. I will need to learn more on how you are doing it. We could borrow a leaf from each other.

Cheers

Dear Colleagues,

The roadside banner for the waste mop-up week is now ready. These will be hanged at key junctions leading into Bweyogerere and so far we have identified four in number. They idea is to inform the public that is not resident in Bweyogerere on the planned event.

Please do let us know areas of improvement.
