My Story
My name is Innocent Benefit Kalinda.I was born in October 24,1976 at Ibbwemunyama in Halonga village.I was born in siavonga district in the southern province.Iam thirty-one years old and happily married to a cheerful lady Euginea who is thirty.Iam born from a family of four, two women and two men.Iam a twin brother and the eldest between the two.My mother is a widow and she lives in the same village.I left the village in 1992 and went to Mazabuka to continue with my further studies..I stayed in Nakambala compound in Mazabuka central which is next to chibolya village.I represent chibolya village at Nabuur.Currently, iam not directly connected with the village because i stay at a coffee and milling farm,40km away from town.Iam working as a coffee stock controller. BIRTH OF OUR PROJECTThe Chibolya School Project initially started in July,2002 under the name Lake Aademy For Relief Agency(LAFRA),through a local community based organisation called Welfare Ministries in Mazabuka.I volunteered with it and later appointed to run a community project in chibolya village. This was my first connection with the village. But due to lack of resources the charity declined. But the school continued to operate under my supervision. However,i faced numerous setbacks to its operation.Initially, the school was established to provide support and meet the educational ,spiritual, and social needs of the community.Through my involvement in community services and volunteering with a local organisation involved in education for orphans and venerable children,we decided to carryout a door-to-door community survey to identify issues that the village faced.Lack of education was first and fore, ost among the responses.Together with local leadership,i organised community meetings and discussions based on development and sustainability. This was to find solutions and ways to improve the village especially in areas of education.health and skills training. I received local support ,but funding and facilities remained a hindrance to my success. Then, along with my two volunteers and the local leadership,we decided to established a local charity called Chibolya Education and Health Organisation to help these children.A pre-school was opened which was to cater for sixty-eighty children. Then i found a temporally structure to operate the school, but sometimes children were taught in an open class and in church buildings made of grass and mud whch made impossible to fuction during rain season. In March,2002,i left the area and the school continued running under the local leadership. The local community could not afford or manage to provide the school resources needed and the school had to shut down. Therefore,in August,2005, i turned into Nabuur.com.an online volunteering organisation based in the Nertherlands for guidence, support and assistance to build a permanent structure for these children.Immediately, i realised and remembered my children and community i left without support for development and i registered chibolya. The community support, meetings and positive discussions held with local leadership especially in chibolya gave me the courage, hope and strength to continue helping and bringing life to these poor children and community. Finally, there chibolya on Nabuur!!Neighbours however, have greatly contributed towards our project. They have actively participated in providing ideas, resources ,suggestions and examples of other organisations which led to the joint effort process and development of an operational plan, website and by-laws of the charity.OUR DREAMWhen the project is completed,we in future plan to implement achievable programes and activities that will meet the needs of the local people. We aim to implement child centred programes such as child sponsorships,Nutrition to help local children and provide assistance as well as materials and medical services to the orphans and venerable children and their families. We also intend to implement projects such as carpentry and sewing and health programes like HIV/AIDS,Malaria,Home based care,HIV Canselling support,Health prevention, sanitation and Hygiene and Income Generation Activities(I.G.A),aimed at providing growth and development to the community and the country's poorest and remotest parts to serve for humanity. All these will be achieved in colaboration with our neighbours ,partners and the local community in a joint effort process to break the circle of poverty in chibolya. Therefore, our first plan is to construct a permanent structure for the kids. This will give access to good quality education and opportunities for high earning jobs in future to help themselves and families. It will also help them make right career and life choices in their lives when they grow up.We will work in colaboration with the Ministry of education and health in Mazabuka and the school will be registered under community schools Board and at District education Board (DEBS) for further assistance. To make it a success we stand with our Motto" Education for orphans and venerable children our concern" THE PLIGHT OF CHIBOLYA.Chibolya ,like many other villages have been neglected for sometime by the government and NGOS and has very little attention to its problems. Therefore, faces alot of challenges and children are subject to early marriages, prostitution, hunger, poor hounsing, illiteracy, unemployment, poor health care, sanitation ,diseases, malnutrition, drug and alcohol abuse, poor economy , dropouts and other various caltural practices. As a result, this has greatly contributed to the vicious circle of poverty in chibolya .In order to survive, every member of the family needs to work in a nearby sugar plantation bringing less than $30 per day /family.Many children are left unattended while order ones and adults set off for work.To get by ,people inganges themselves in small business ventures such as selling fruits and vegitables, salaula, selling cooked food stuffs, but this usually brings in less than $1 a day.Others brew beer(elicity) illigally while others work in saloons and accept money in exchange for sex which left them venerable to HIV/AIDS.The inability to pay school fees, uniforms, delayed enrollements and negative perceptions about education has left many children out of school and hindered themfrom attaining higher grades.I therefore , decided to step in and take a proactive role in finding solutions to these issues. The community alone could not afford to provide meaningful support to the children and community thus compelled me get actively involved and participated in bringing life, restoration and hope to these deprived children. The village has been neglected enouph and this forced me also to help in looking for assistance needed to end poverty in the area.MY SOURCE OF DETERMINATION.I was so motivated and inspired to work with children who had no parental and guidence, during my working with a local charity working in the domains of education for orphans and venerable children. In my efforts to help them i received alot of support form the village which doubled my interest ,courage and hope to continue providing assistance to the community and children. The God given power, friends, community events, meetings i have attended has greatly inspired me and opened my heart to serve for humanity. The practical problems faced by children in the area has given sleepless moments to my life. However,in lue of doing this i faced alot of challenges, but i realised good and bad moments in ones life.Iam more thrilled and happy when i see children playing social games, singing poems etc despite what they go through in their daily lives makes me free of worries for tomorrow. When childen will attain the needed support to better their lives also makes me happy. When our planned projects are completed will i be satisfied and overjoyed to have overcomed the challenges faced by the community, then smiles will shine and flow on my face always.MY BEST LESSON IN LIFE & WHAT KEEPS AWAKEMy best lesson in life is to be vibrant ,helpful, loving and a teacher of others. As a determined young man,i feel to be a mirror and a light to others .I believe helping others is a blessing and a reward.I feel education is a pillar of a good future for a child and thus i stand on with the motto"Education for orphans and venerable children our concern" shall be my leaning tool for the success of my dream.I feel instrumental to bring life and restoration to deprived souls of God.Though, i disire to be a blessing to others ,I face alot of challenges to achieving them. Our project is big and when i sit to think where and how it will grow, achieved and where to get the resources needed to accomplish our goal brings to a sleepless night. These children needs support and where to get the support is my thought of the day.Chldren are undergoing a touph and hard time and need salvation. They have become beggers, street kids, vendors and roam in markets without food or shelter ,which left them venerable to diseases and this gives me sleepless moments.A DAY IN LIFEDuring my spare time mostly on weekends,I like watching football, listening gospel music and reading christian books.I also like nature, visiting friends and teach my wife to be computer literate.Iintially, the day starts at 5:30am when my wife wakes up .She prepares breakfast while i help her warm water for bathing.Just after bathing we sit for our morning prayer and at 6:00am we sit for breakfast. At 6:25am we set off for work and usually we start work at 7:00am and break off for lunch at 12:00pm.We come back at 2:00pm and end the day at 18:00pm..We eat food like bread, coffee, tea, butter for breakfast but I enjoy traditional foods so much. We also partake foods such as vegitables, shima, beans, kapenta, fish potatoes and many others but in most cases we enjoy traditional foods very much.We all both work and is about 1km to our work place. My wife is domectical worker and we set off together. We usually ride to and fro work.We end the day at 6pm when resign off work for rest in the evenings.INTERNET & NABUUR AS LIGHT TO THE WORLDIam thrilled to my utmost and knowledge of this great tool inernet. It is a meeting place and an avenue to get resourced, knowledge, inspired, trained informed communication and friendship. It brings us together as a global village and as one family thus plays a major role in my life.I feel happy to a wider network of neighbours and friends who cares because of internet and Nabuur. These has played a signficant change to my well being. With Nabuur,I feel at home, loved peace through having a pool of friends around me to support us as village and family. Thanks to Nabuur for bringing this uniting tool to the people and the world as a global village.Without it would feel lost and lonely.I get connected with internet at the cafe in town which is 40km away from home, mostly on weekends during spare time. But i usually access it at the work place two times a day, either morning or midday. The costs for internet differs depending on what cafe i use.I normally pay 200zmk/min and for an hour i often pay 12,000zmk for jobs requiring more time behind it.Transport is also an issue of concern and i pay 20,000 zmk to and fro town usually on a public transport.Despite all these challenges in my daily life in running this project i take perserverance ,dedication and committment as a key to my success because of what is involved in making my dream happen and iam beyond doubt that it shall be achieved. Thus working has helped me and my wife meet the demands of the community without good resources. Therefore,to all those willing or intending to colaborate or partner with us are dearly welcome and invited to join us in our pursuit to make a difference to this poor communtiy. They will expect multiple strains of love, cooperation, time, colaboration, committment, participation ,trustworth ,transperancy and accountability needed to realise our goal. Our neighbours have greatly and positively helped ,contributed and supported us in this project to ensure greater heights of our goals.Lastly,I would like to forward my heartfelt gratitude to all our neighbours and the Nabuur team for giving us village pages and my community as a global village and meet to find possible solutions to solve our local issues. Thanks Nabuur!!!
