Hi Innocent, Heather and Everyone,

Great news about the donation from the foundation in Lusaka - well done Heather for all your hard work there. Also good to hear that you now have the necessary building documentation to present to ZOAZ.

Innocent, has ZOAZ indicated how much financial help they are likely to give towards the school renovation project?

We will be back in the UK at the end of the week and will keep in touch.

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi Innocent,
I can see you have been been very busy recently. I am pleased the meeting with Build It International went well and that you are working to get VAT exemption. It is an inspiration to us that you put in so much good work on behalf of the Chibolya community.

I have just sent Abhinav an e mail to say we are missing him and asking if he would get back in touch. I see on January 25th (his last correspondence) that he was having problems posting messages, so hopefully he will reply. If not it may be worth asking Nabuur to contact him.

Cheers Shaun

Hi Innocent and everyone,

Could you post the Crossroads delivery instructions on Nabuur . I seem to have misplaced them, but from what I remember there were many stages to the procedure. As the VAT is for the Zambian government I would presume only they can issue exemption so you are correct to continue working on it locally. On the other points we should be able to get more details of the shipment to help you get the quotes you need.

Let us know the delivery instructions and I will make some enquiries for you and double check the VAT at the same time.

Cheers Shaun

Dear Mr. Kalinda,

Greetings from Crossroads!

My name is Julie Ostapovitch and it will be my pleasure to be your contact as we work through the preparations for this shipment. It is such a joy for us to be able to partner with you to support the work you are doing in Zambia .

In this Welcome email I will give you an outline of how we will move on from here with the preparations. Crossroads works through a 9 stage process in preparing and sending every shipment. At several of these stages we will need input from you before we can move on to the next stage. Please see the summary of the stages below. We suggest you print this email and keep a copy for future reference.

There are many factors involved in bringing a shipment together. Commonly, we work through the stages in about 6 to 12 months but 2 of these stages will involve feedback from you after the container is received. We know that it can be a time consuming and challenging process to import the container and want to do all we can to help this process to run smoothly. Timely communication between Crossroads and your organisation throughout the whole process is crucial. Please feel free, at any time, to let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the shipment.

The Processing, Shipping and Publicity Departments at Crossroads work as a team on each shipment that we do. You will hear from different members of the team at various stages of the process but any of us can be reached through the shipping email account (shipping@crossroads.org.hk).

You will notice from the summary that we will begin looking at the stock for your container at Stage 3. We should mention here that, sadly, we don’t have the building materials, electrical products, medical supplies, tools or vehicles available. These items are rarely donated. However we will continue to watch for them and if available we will add them to the stock for your shipment.

Another very important note to mention here is that Crossroads has no funds available for shipping. Rather we approach shipping lines and other freight companies and ask if they would be willing either to donate the freight or to give a charitable rate, for which we can seek sponsorship. Neither can we provide funds for port clearance or any duty payable. Any clearance or duty charges are your responsibility.

As you can see from the summary, Stage 2 will require some input from you. Our Publicity Department will be contacting you to hear first-hand about your work so we can motivate potential sponsors and our volunteers as we organise your shipment. We also will be asking you to start investigating the inland transport options.

We are excited to be able to support your work in this way and are looking forward to partnering with you throughout the preparation of this shipment.

Kind regards,

Julie Ostapovitch
Processing Manager
