Search and contact organisations that fund small scale village schools in Africa

Status: Finished

With only information and written help we will not be able to help Chibolya with all their problems. We still need some more.

We would like to ask you to find organisations that can help us build this school for the kids of Chibolya and provide us with help, materials and fundings.

Feel free to contact the organisations you have found and ask them for help.

Innocent, our local representative and Monique&Stefan, our facilitators will be happy to assist our answer questions from the organisations.

Hello everybody,

I am new here in Chibolya and in general in nabuur.
I am not sure what I should exactly do but I started to search for the organisations that have grants for primary schools in Africa.

I got somehow to the website of US embassy in Zambia. Do you think it is a good idea to write to them and ask if they new about any programs that could support our school? If if you think it is OK I can write to them. Maybe they know some organisations who could help us.

Greetings,
Aneta

Hello Aneta

Welcome in Chibolya and at Nabuur. Just do what you think you can do to help. Your first idea of searching for grants is already brilliant.

It would be great if you could write US Embassy, lets hope for a positive reaction. Please let us know if you get a reaction.

Bye

For your information Please note the change in USA website domain from hopeandanimal.org to -www.helppeopleandanimal.org

This would take in place from 6th February 2006

Praveen :-)

Hello

The organisations Abaana helps supporting and building schools in Africa. So I guess they can help us with 2 actions needed:
the project plan and the funding.

This is the link to their site, I did not contact them yet.

Hello all

I posted Innocents organisations in the resources.
I think we already have quite some sources, so we can start contacting.

Please let us know which organisation you contacted.

I will look for a letter which we can all use when we contact organisations. I hope to inform you about this soon.

Bye for now

Hello everyone,

We received some new information from Innocent concerning the permits and legal documents that will be needed before we can build the school.

First of all I would like to ask Innocent how long it will take (estimate time) before the legal documents are ready. I know from experience that it takes ages here in Europe. I think it will be important to know, because we cannot start building before all the legal stuff is ready.

Now new the information:
- the land for construction was provided locally for free
- permits and legal documents will cost about 350 euros
- electricity for the whole building will cost about 900 euros (the powerline is already nearby which is an advantage)
- the watertank is nearby as well, connecting to it won’t be a problem
- we adjusted the budget to include this info and the contingency Jan proposed, see resources

Innocent already told us he will take a weeks leave to deal with all the legal requirements when the project starts.

For us it is time to find funds so we can really start our building process.
What you could do to help at this stage is:
- write a letter template which we can use to send to organisations which could fund our project
- find organisations that could be able to help us with fundings
- contact these organisations

Please post your progress so we can support each other (and do not contact a certain organisation twice)

Have a nice weekend.

Hi everyone!

I'm new here, new to Nabuur in general. In fact, this is just my second post. I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but I'll give it a shot anyways...

I found an organization that might be able to help fund a small scale village school in Africa.

I've attached a file re:qualifications for the communities whose schools they are willing to help build.

The name of the organization is Building with Books. This is their website: http://www.buildingwithbooks.org/

I don't know if we fit the qualifications. If we do, I can contact them as soon as I get word that we do. :)

In addition to this, I also found another organization which might also be able to help. It's called Aid to Africa. They can be found at http://aidintoafrica.org. Contact person is Alan Cable for charity Aid into Africa. Email address is alancable@aidintoafrica.org. I'll try to contact Mr. Alan Cable later this week.

So, that's it for now. I hope I was able to help in one way or another. And if I'm doing anything wrong, please inform me.

Looking forward to working with everybody.

Hello Anna Lou,

Thanks very much for the websites you found. They really seem interesting. I posted them in the resources at the bottem of this page.

It would be wonderfull if you could contact Mr. Alan Cable for us. If he has any questions you always direct him to this website or to Innocent or us. Please let us now when you contact him then we can make sure nobody else from our village does.

Innocent, could you go through the document Anna Lou posted (see post Anna Lou and resources) and see if Chibolya fulfills the selection criteria of building with books. I think we might do, but you know more about schools in the area etc etc. If we fulfill on of us can contact them.

Bye
