With the increased exposure, positive attitudes adopted towards Dandora Community and greater awareness of the specific needs of communities, more opportunities will be availed and confidence built nationally and regionally.
The impact of this assistance will be measured in terms of increased networking and collaboration and the overall momentum of research in Life sciences, industry at Community, nationally, regionally and internationally level. With this the programmes will be judged as a successful project of Appropriate Research and Development (ARAD).
Diseases, hunger, and poverty are among the most formidable challenges in our societies. Yet, the achievement of physical and mental well-being of the people is crucial to human development.
Healthcare, Medicine, Food, Water and Income. Every Kenyan deserves them. Every child, youth, woman and man needs them.
But I know millions of people in Kenya desperately short of the five. They and their families, communities are inhabitants of rural and sub-urban areas. And I can tell you that, by any time you reach them, they have very little with them. They are weak, skinny, emaciated and hopeless. They are suffering from multiple diseases – malaria, nutrition, HIV/AIDS and ophthalimia among others. And the stress in their lives makes the youth, men and women sink into anti social behaviour. Their girls and women become unsafe and turn to prostitution whereas the boys and men migrate to urban areas with breaking inflation.
Without prompt donations from rich nations, malnutrition rolls and vulnerability soars, and donors end up paying more for food airlifts and therapeutic feeding programmes. The cost of suffering and dying is expensive, leading to trauma and agony. The cost of funerals and caring for orphans makes it difficult for families to cope. Lack of food and medicines means
the diseases kill faster and the combination of HIV/AIDS and hunger pushes families deeper into poverty. The number of the sick and starving is increasing everyday.
Our Local representative shall be Mr. Nahashon Sadat who was appointed by the community elders and youth leaders to manage information about Dandora Community.
16.0 RESEARCH
It is indicated that all through in this project programme that the major knowledge apse exists with respect to the incidence services of fighting malaria endemic disease of which DC will commission studies and survey to fill these gaps. In particular the following will be treated as a matter of priority:
A study to determine maternal mortality rates.
Studies to determine prevalence rates of the major childhood diseases and the trends in these prevalence’s rates.
Study to monitor changes in fertility rates and also possible acceptance of family planning.
Studies on AIDS, not only to find a cure but also better way of case management.
Studies to find better methods of managing major childhood diseases.
Operational research in health.
Research in attitudes towards utilization of health care services.
Studies to promote school health services on malaria endemic.
The activities under this include, provision of technical mobilization for aid creation of an outreach training programme. These can be added to the large and growing body of community-self help groups organized around the health related activities in the Community. The catchment area for membership has enormous growth potential.
Many groups are disorganized and with no effective productive and managerial skills and bargaining capacity and are involved in unthrifty and backward economic activities. The very people providing healthcare are not able to survive on their own, as they are the poorest and cannot afford to purchase equipment for making dosage forms for ease of distribution. They are prone to unscrupulous business intermediaries. They have also been affected by HIV pandemic, which has increased their vulnerability and poverty status.
