I completely agree that the issue you have raised is an area of concern not just in Elmina, but in Africa, as a whole, and so I am interested in doing the much I can to help. However, there are a few things I would like to clarify.
First, you mentioned that providing parents with a little money for pretty trading would help increase child enrollment at schools (24th of September post). You probably have first-hand understanding as to why you think this would help; especially since your profile states that you are a teacher in Elmina. So can you expatiate more as to your thoughts on how this would be a solution to the aforementioned problem?
Also when you talk about dropouts- are they mainly from the elementary (primary) schools or are there more of them from the secondary schools? Which group is the major focus of your concern?
PS: Use of the Internet may not be readily accessible to you; but if there is a particular time maybe a particular day of the week or a particular time range when you know you would have internet access, please include that in your response as I look forward to speaking more-in-length with you at the earliest time possible.
First Unemployment rate in Ghana is very high and even greater in Rural areas in Ghana. In Rural Areas in Ghana most of the Parents are small scale farmers who only farm to feed their family not for the purpose of selling it.Hence the hardly get even a token of Cedi to even cater for their clothing. Most of these inhabitant of the rural areas live from hand to mouth. They cannot meet the needs of their children in School so the rather take them to help in farming activities so as to increase the number of hand on the farm and well as the size of the farm to raise little revenues to suport housing ependiture like rent, clothing, feeding and other hence causing an increase in the drop out rate.
So is Elmina,Elmina is a Fishing community in the Central Region of Ghana. The Inhabitant are mainly into fishing,Most of the Fishermen are not well educated so the relly on season for their catch,During the Raining Season the Catch is normally Ok, but during the Dry season the Catch is very poor and for that matter Children who's parents are Fishermen will have to stop schooling since their Parents is not getting enough money so therefore can't cater for their ward school fee instead invite the children to join them with other jobs in addition to the fishing job to be able to meet some needs like Cloths, rent, feeding, electricity, water and other.
The Drop out rate is not only High at the Primary level but also the second cycle level. My focus will be on the Primary Schools in Elmina. We are Hoping to Organise Brainstorming Project in Elmina on school drop out if we get little funding form Volunteer,Churches International Donor and Government Agencies.

So far how much have you been able to do without the funding? What ideas have you come up with that require funding? I know you talked about supplementing rural farmers' income by providing them with money for trade. But maybe the money should be going into more effective means of preserving products when they are made( e.g storing fishes after they are got from the sea) that way farmers are not forced to sell goods at a less cost-effective price in their bid to reduce loss due to spoilage. Helping people justy a little, (via the money supplementatiion), is more like a short-term investment; but if they have better preservation methods or have other avenues to which the excess can be inputed(e.g if they were cattle-reareres, they can use the waste to feed carnivorous livestock as part of their farming procedures. In addition, since children are the major helping hands for such people, making more money from their products; theycan invest in getting proper helping hands, since they can now afford to employ more people.
So for we have been able to organised a brainstorming school dropouts campaign with the little funding from the money i had wanted to use to further my education at Pan African University in Ghana.Seven different schools in Elmina were present, also in attendance were some of the elders of Elmina community and parents of the varous school children who were mostly farmers.Yeah i think seting up a sytem to aid them preserve their product could really help a lot and even help these farmers to even get money from their preserved food when even the harvest is poor.So i want to Know how best we can do this? will cold store help or what can help?please let me Know your mind.and how best we can work it out.
I also think there should be continues Brainstorming workshop for these parents,Street children, school dropouts, orphans, students and youths in Elmina.I want to know if Continues brainstorming workshops on school drop out can help? How best can we do that?
Is better you identify the problem or problems causing the drop-out rate. And tell us how far you have come in identified the causes of the problems and some remedies to that canker. But in my humble opinion,i think the problem is multi-faceted one and therefore need to be treated as such.
The level of school drop-outs in Elmina is very alarming. In recent time there has been series of articles and letters in the varous newspapers discussing the High school drop-outs in the country.in the light of this discusion, we want to examine carefully the causes, effect and make suggestion to eradicate this social evil
1.Poverty and harsh economic condition
The extreme difficult for majority of parents to make ends meet as a result of lack of jobs,is one cause of school drop-outs in Elmina.Due to lack of jobs some parents are not able to cater for their wards in school. Some household cannot even aford two meals a day.We found out that most of the children do not attend school because they have to assist their parents financially through working to earn money to support the family.
2.Teenage Pregnancy
It has been observed that many children in the community practise early relationship which lead to teenage pregnancy. Many young girls end up in pre mature mother at elmina is horrifying and leading to a lot of school drop outs. This Victims of school drop outs indulge in prostitution for money and just a single sex act is enough to spread contagious and deadly disease like HIV/AIDS,Syphillis,and Gonorrhea. Also school drop outs apart for these disease he/her could contact, would have to also endure mental and emotional stress because her education is ruined.
3.Not enough school building
Through our investigation,we got to know that school building for school children are not adequate. This became know when a woman took her child to school and when she went ,she was told that the room is full.
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE.
Every effort should be made be government, non governmental organisation and religous institution to emback on nationwide education on High rate of school drop out to help save innocent children.
It is due to this reason that KIRC foundation has decided to collaborate with governmental and religious bodies to solicit fund for this compaign.
Which governmental and religious bodies have you worked with so far? What have they done to help? The issue you are addressing is a country-wide issue, have you tried writing petitions to your local government chairman at the local level to see what he can do about it. I know that there can be corrupt leaders, but aren't there education ministries under the Minister of Education's control that you can approach - not as a n individual, maybe as a collective- in order to show that this issue affects your society as a whole. I remember in Nigeria- that's a close country to you- they used to have these posters (awareness posters) for free distribution. I am sure the Ministry of Health would make those posters available even at the local level, so you can post that around. Although, i don;t think that would be helpful except to the more literate members of society. For those, who do attend school, I think it would be helpful to incorporate sex education into regular schools classes- make it a part of the Social Studies class or the Health education class right from an early age. A lot of young children have great respect for their teachers, and you'll be surprised at how many of them would actually refrain from pre-marital sex if they are educated properly by someone they respect. Try doing that too.
Iam still working with the Komenda,Edina,Eguafo,Abrem Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana. For the Religions bodies we have worked with only one new church in Beriase. We organized Career training workshop for out of school and in school youths to bring their mind back to the importance of education. We have also organise a series of workshop on HIV/AIDS,TB and Malaria in the Elmina.I personally had to sponsor every project with my own earn salary with no sponsorship from any where.I have even tried other political leader and member in the Municipality but they rather turn you down.I have tried every where but to no avail.the money is siting in someone pocket. We are now pleading with aid organisation to help in financing our next Awareness project.
So I found this website where you can receive books for free especially if you are serving low-income families which you are- you want to have a look at that? Since we are both online, we can go through it together on our computers and then message our findings as to the suitability of this program to you back to each other. How does that sound?
Also, I' m thinking of getting up a project team to make HIV/ AIDS posters to be sent to you. To make the posters appeal to a larger audience- I'm thinking of using graphics, and writing it in Gaa or the language that is predominant in Elmina--or at least the region of Elmina you occupy. In addition, I was just wondering, do you have any very keen students in the class- that have good attendance, and parents that are more open to preventing HIV/AIDS spread. I am thinking of writing out a script for a play on HIV/ AIDS (I will have to translated to your language- but we shall cross that bridge when we get there). I think it will be a creative way to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, and get the students involved too. Since fishing farmers usually need their children to help them; hence my targeting those students I asked about earlier to participate in the play. Any thoughts?
For the website you give me, i think Ghana was not captured in the countries. it was only USA and canada so in this case i sugest you apply for the books on my behalf.what about that?
Yeah, I perused the website information later, and came to the same conclusion myself. I think it would be a more workable idea is we are online at the same time, so we can fill it in together, just in case there is any required information that I will need to pass by you first, or any clarifications et cetera. I mentioned this before, but you don't seem particularly drawn to the idea because you have never responded to this request. Give me time ranges that will be most convenient for you- and I will find a way to work with that to make myself available at that time.
For the website you gave me i tried it but they were specifying i choose between some two countries somewhere.how about meeting on saturday @ 11:00am gmt to do it together?
