My limited experience would say to focus less on computer hardware such as expensive, energy gobbling hardware, like servers and explore more modern options to use 'cloud computing', where data and information is saved in the ethernet. Eg explore sites such as 'DropBox.com' for storage and back-up of written documents. Try 'Photobucket.com' for images and getting your message out to others about what you do.

Focus on partnerships with online communities to find informal training sources and 'buddies' for students. (I will be one!) Check out this link. They are really helpful. Many professionals who know their stuff here. I have had help from them myself on basic stuff to repair my lap top http://forums.techguy.org/ There is a social forum here and every computer / I.T. topic under the sun!

Consider OPEN SOURCE software for office business applications or personal use for producing documents. Microsoft and other companies charge for their software. See http://OpenOffice.com Have used their software and it is impressive and nearly as good as Microsoft as far as I can tell. They offer all kinds of 'platforms' including desk top publishing
