Dear Jennifer,Tatjana, Tejnath and Raffel
I am sorry for being late in reply.
Pls Mr. Tejnath and Tatjana, Both of you are most well come, joining your hands in this project.
I was out of station and there was electricity problem.
Pls consult this photo here I have attached and it will be helpful to make ideas about land and existing buiilding.
Pls, ask again if you need more information, possibly it is better to post here your questions which is easier to reply from myside.
Dear Tejnath,
Have we meet earlier? do u know about Rato Bangala School and RBPOP, Have u been in Kathmandu as your rsidency.
I think we can be closer and work together. I am living in Kathmandu and working for rural area.
Best of all.
Hello Min, Jeniffer and ALL!
Tajana's concern regarding dimension of the existing school building is the first step needed to start developing the drawing/plans. Most of our activities involed with this project will really depend on the design of structure. Budget, operational and maintenance conscern, funding requirment, proposals and others will depend on the drawing. So its very critical to feedback Tajana's requirment.
Regards and happy weekend to all!
Rafael
Rafael-
Thank you for your guidance. Would it be best if Min visited the site and took measurement or marked off where they want to build the two rooms and provided measurement for that space? Do you need length, width, height, size of windows and things like that?
Sorry if this seems very basic, but I want to make sure we don't forget anything and Min knows exactly what to do since the location involves travel for him to get there.
Is it possible to make a list of questions for him based on the information you need?
Jennifer
Hello Jenifer and All!
Yes, we will be needing that basic information as what you have said.
It will be easier if we can have the old plan/drawings of the existing school building where we will extend structure if it will be possible. If not, we have to actual measure the sizes.
Tatjan, do you have time to do the list of your requirements?
We have to hear from Min what he can provide to us then we think how we can do about it.
Regards!
Rafael :-)
Rafael,
I've emailed Min about this. I suspect that he is still struggling with inconsistent electricity. If he's unable to post here, I will post what information I receive here if he's unable to post it himself.
Thanks again for your help!
Jennifer
Dear Jennifer, Rafael and Tatjan
Sorry for being late in reply, even I had visited website yeasterday.
We had not many more information about construction. The local contractor just explained cost extimation according to lentgh and wide of the building which I had sent to Jennifer earlier. The previous buildings were constructed according to local ideas that the constructor went to field and sketch the lines then started construction. The measurement of existing building is (Breath= 18' and Length=22)per room.
In case of the direction and land slope, the area is plain and east elevation. the photo posted in website gives some idea about land form.
Dear Rafael and Tatjan, can you make me easier by sending questions again regarding to construction.
I will be online and be regular meet website.
Sincerely your's

Hello!!!
Dear Min,
Your picture says a lot about the landascape, but unfortunately not much about the school building itself or about the typical architecture in the region.
I would appreciate some detailed initial information which are required to start work on the project. We can't go any further now without a provided detailed information.
In architecture-building branch a simple sketch says more than a hundreds of words. Thus it would be perfect if you could sketch the existing building, so we could all know here at Nabuur how it exactly looks like. It doesn't metter if it's free-hand drawing or not. It is important to understand exactly how it looks like in order to understand each other and to design the addition.
As Rafael said, everything is important for us to describe.
The list of questions:
- the project of the building or a sketch on how the building looks like today (floor plan, elevation, section, dimensions, position of the entrance, north orientation, photos of the building- the clearer the better)
- marked place for the future extension
- the lot, dimensions, north orientation, position of the the building
- what are the materials (concrete block, brick, wood/other, how thick are the walls/floors)
- windows/doors,dimensions
- fundations' depth
- roof construction.
- at last, do you prefere measures in meters or inches/feet?
These initial information/sketch should be saved in the resources section since they are important for the whole project. Thus they would be easily approachable.
I'm waiting for your answers.
Best regards,
Tatjana
Hi Min and all!
Thats Tatjana, she really works fast.....
Rafael
:-)
Tatjana do the pictures in the "My village" section of the school help you at all or would you need others?
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, Min, Rafael & All,
In the village section I can see the two buildings in the background, built of stone it seems, but not more. More pictures focused on school would be perfect to have. I hope that Min can make it soon.
//Tatjana
Dear Tatjan, Rafael and Jennifer and all others
I am grateful toward your contribution. Okay, I will send sketch very soon. I have already sent to Jennifer also.
Sincerely your'as
min
Min asked me to post this powerpoint. It contains dimensions and a diagram of the building.
Hi Min, Jennifer, Tatjana and everybody!
I saw the picture no. 16 with good interior painted on plastered cement finish. Probably Min is having a community meeting. Good window for natural lighting and air ventilation too.
That structure is good for school building and looks brand new. Do we have an existing drawing/plan of that. If we have, our work will be lessen and make a minor modification to fit our purpose. Who built that, maybe we can have the detailed estimate and floor area.
My suggestion to the old existing building is to detached the proposed new structure to be more safer. The material breakdown I saw is more of an indeginious building where common and local to the community.
Min what type of material do the community wish to have? Sorry for asking to many questions. Its important to know so our designers/local contractor would have a clear material specification and cost.
Regards,
Rafael
Dear Rafael, Jennifer, Tatajan and all,
Wishing you all the best.
Here I encouraged to write about building agian. I think, being in distance, question and answer is one of our source of information. Since,
Rafael,
You are right in your first guess that I am with community meeting in another building. But I do not have any estimation and map of that building.
I agree with you that we don not attach the new building with the old one because the old one does not look long lasting.
Certainly these are indigenious materilas,
But cement, concrete, sand, wood, and other are familier materials for the new building also. Mostly people use these things in construction.
I always feel pleasure your questions,
Community can support local materials like; wood, stone and labor and they require such materials which are not available at local level and need to buy from outside. these are; cement, rods, skilled manpower, bending wire, nails, bricks, paint, and others.
Dear rafael, I think I had sent about cost estimatio with name of materials if it is not available to yoou I will send again.
Sincerely your's
