I join with Min in welcoming you to the Gamauli village. It's so great to have new volunteers choosing to join the project. We have a lot of big things going on at the moment, so the project room is a bit quiet until they get accomplished-here's a brief synopsis: 1. Min has secured all the necessary funds to route fresh water from a nearby market to a tank at the school. ECC is working together with the local community to construct a pipeline and water tank. Construction has started and we hope to have pictures to share very soon. This will be the first time ever that Shree Krishna Primary School has had access to water at the school so it's very exciting! 2. The toilet at the school needs to be replaced. Min has worked on getting committments from other community organizations to contribute toward the cost of rebuilding the toilet at the school so there is a place for girls and another for boys. A picture of the old toilet is available in the gallery-you'll see why it needs replaced! Min is still working to secure the entire financial contribution required to finish this, but he's confident they will get it done. 3. I have been working on two project proposals-one to the Help Nepal Network and another with Rachel's assistance to Empower Nepal to help with funding the 2-classroom expansion to the school. We have a gentleman who has agreed to provide funds for up to $5000 of the construction costs if we can secure the other half, so I am very hopeful that our proposal will be successful. I hope to have these done and submitted within the next week or two. 4. We recently started discussing plans to provide items for use on the playground as well as educational learning materials for the classroom as the 2009 project for around Christmas. Last year's project we did in a short time, so we decided earlier planning was warranted this year. If you have any thoughts about how to approach this or creative ideas for best approaching this project and minimizing cost we'd love to hear your thoughts. 5. Our 2008 project was to provide 110 winter hats, gloves, mufflers and sweaters (one set each) to 110 students at the school. We were able to raise $800 and the Yoshinkel project in Nepal is busy crafting these items. The money is supposed to be transferred to the ECC account around 2/12/09 from Give Meaning. 6. Once the classrooms are built, there will be enough room for a better library at the school. Min hopes to establish an English based library for the students. Securing books for this will be one of the next priorities. Anyway! That's where we're at right now. It's going to be a big year with lots of big changes at the school.
