Winter Clothes-2008 Fundraising Project

Dear neighburs
We respect your contribution for the gamauli people and school children. There are two projects in pipeline or in que. Construction of two classroom is taking long time and we are not finding any donor. It is most urgent project for the school. Here I would like to request again. Pls make your small contribution and we can see the big result for these innocent children.
Next one is water bottle and tiffin boxes project. Mrs. Sara is working on this project and I hope she will make it complete near future.
Here I would like to request to other neighbours for warm cloths. November to February is most cold duration here in Gamauli. Some of the children cannot attend school because they do not have warm cloths. Last year I made small contribution that I collected some sweeters here in Kathmandu and distributed to 60 students.
This year I am trying from a month ago here in Kathmandu but not getting success. Since I request to neighbours for this small support.
Sincerely your's

We have approached the Yoshinkel project here on Nabuur about possibly partnering with them to see if both projects could benefit by submitting a joint proposal to address the need for warm clothing for the most needy students at the school. Angelika plans to talk with Sabina about this and I've sent additional information to Min about identifying how many students would be in need. Ideally we will help as many as possible, but I think if we can target in particular any students who would not be able to come to school at all due to having no warm clothing and keep them in school that would be great.
I am exploring some different options for places we could submit a joint proposal now. If anyone has any ideas about this, please feel free to post here.

Dear Jennifer and other nebighbours
I have planned to visit Gamauli in third week of NOv. Winter is very soon in Gamauli. I did try to find warm cloths from some of the Garmenret factory but they did not reply. Now I am asking some schools and waiting their replies.
I request to all neighbours to contribute their small amoount of money or idea that can be great effort for these needy children.

I approached Min with the idea of trying to work with the women in the Yoshinkel village to address the issue of winter clothing for students in need so that we can also be supportive of the Yoshinkel knitting project as well. We do not have funds at the present time to purchase the supplies for the women to knit these items and do understand that turn-around time might be longer. I have been emailing with Angelika, the facilitator for Yoshinkel, this week and she and Sabina are interested in seeing what we can work out to make this happen.
We're still working on details-but I've asked Min to try to identify the most needy students at Krishna Primary School and find out sizes. I need to get back to Angelika and find out what the women are able to make. We've talked about submitting a proposal for funding this endeavor, but if there are some volunteers who would want to donate to this cause and help purchase these items from the Yoshinkel village-you'd be supporting not only the women in Yoshinkel, but also the most needy students at the school.
I'll post more information as we work out more of the details. If you're interested in making a donation, please email me or send me a private message here at Nabuur so we can get an idea how much money we'd need to request in a proposal.
UPDATED INFO: I was able to locate this information in the Yoshinkel Village. Possibly Sabina and/or Angelika can update here if any of this information is not current, but this will provide at minimum an estimate of possible cost and time frames for production:
"There are currently 25 knitters who can produce
Knitters can knit 2 hats per day
Gloves 2 pairs per day
Socks 2 pairs per day
1 Sweater per week (simple design) - if the design is difficult, it will take more time to knit.
minimum price list of woolen products (simple design)
Muffler: $ 6.00
Jumper/Sweater: $ 20.00
Caps with ear: $ 5.00
Gloves: $ 2.00
Socks: $ 4.00
The price may vary as per size, design and patterns."
Thanks!
Jennifer
Dear Jennifer
Thanks for doing this great job. I did call to head tereport sent by the consulted the acher in Gamauli and I school. I concluded that 110 students are highly needy. Their age group and needy materials and estimated cost is as following;
Sweeter, $6.00*110= $660.00
Mufflers,$5.00*110= $550.00
Socks, $3.00*110= $330.00
shoes, $6.00*110= $660.00
Gloves, $2.00*110= $220.00
Caps, $2.00*110= $220.00
Total= $2640.00
The above things are very useful and popular in that area.
The age group of students is as following;
6-8 years old = 58 students
9-10 years old = 32 students
11-13 years old = 20 students
Since I request to Jennifer to manage donation according to it. I hope if Yoshinkhel helps to Gamauli then the cost may be less. This cost is based in local market. If we buy in Kathmandu then we need transport in rural area and it may be quite time taking and costly.

Angelika, the facilitator for Yoshinkel, and I have been communicating via email this week. I asked about the prices and she is planning to check with Sabina. She said that the women are already selling the items they are knitting in the local markets, so her thought was buying direct would typically be cheaper than market price. She is going to talk to Sabina and get back to me with the costs.
Angelika and I both thought that possibly packaging a group of needed items together would be the best way to approach this if any volunteers wanted to donate to sponsor the needs of a single student. I have talked to Min and explained that while it would be fantastic to be able to purchase items for every single student, it will probably be difficult to secure the required funding to do that.
One idea I was tossing around was possibly trying to post this endeavor in Give Meaning. Since this effort has a double impact, I thought it might be appealing to people looking to donate money toward a good cause. Any thoughts on that or other ideas?
Jennifer
Min has a meeting scheduled with Sabina tomorrow to view a sample of the knitted items and discuss a price. He will update after this meeting.
