Half of the population of Zambia is under 15 and 24 years. and about 8% of the these young boys and 17% of the girls are living with HIV.
Fewer than 4% of the young people in Zambia have taken a HIV test and know their status.
Based on current trends, a 15 year-old Zambian boy faces 60% risk of becoming Hiv positive, during his lifetime. yet,two-third of young people don't belive they are at risk.
Sexually transmitted infectionsn are the major health problem for young people. half of whom cannot cite even one symptom of such infections.
Young people tend shun health service due to the cost,the off-putting attitudes of health workers.
Condom use is poor and irregular.
Zambia's young people are extremely vulnerable to the AIDS epidemic. one third of the the country's teenagers start secondary school, but three-quatters of the dropout before gaining their certificates.
Fix the People
Young people badly need accurate information in on sexual health issues HIV and AIDS. The neeed Skill to negotiate and adopt safer sex. they need the abitity to take control of their lives in wretehed settings.
