Fundraising has started on GiveMeaning
Status:

Thanks to everyone who helped us get 100 votes for our project on GiveMeaning. We reached our goal and now the fundraising has started. You can help by either donating at yofoso or telling your friends and colleagues. Louis and Gibson are students who have shown amazing potential over the past 2-3 years and have successfully passed their last exams. They now lack the funds to go to Grade 8. We need to raise $400 to pay their yearly school fees.

It is hard to choose .I don't know them ...
Please tell something more about them.
Hello Hermione,
Thank you very much for your mail.
The two boys are Louis Munshya [16 years] and Gibson Muvumbu [15].They are apart of the children who come to the social centre which is found in Garden and Yofoso is the community Based organisation which is behind the operation of this centre.
At this centre we are running a child literacy development programme under which the Library we have built falls.
Hope this information and the attached profiles will be of great help.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to offer some suggestions to help you with your fundraising project. These are some things that everyone can do to help-even if you've already cast a vote:
1. Each time you post updates about your GiveMeaning project, make sure you include the link to the fundraising page. This way people do not have to go searching for it.
2. If you have not already done so, you can add a link to the fundraising page on the Overview page of your village. In the description, clearly mark it FUNDRAISING or something like that so people can readily identify what it is.
3. Consider adding a message to your emails using your email signature to help direct your family and friends to the project. Make sure they know it's easy to register and only takes a few minutes to cast a vote (and to donate).
4. Use your instant messenger status message to post a link to the project.
5. Use Facebook and post a public note about the project and tag your friends to get them to come read it.
6. Use your Facebook status to ask your friends to vote and donate once you move to the fundraising phase.
7. If you are using Twitter, send out a Tweet-make sure you use keywords so that it will show up in searches (such as Education, Uganda, School). You can also use hashtags (#education) to also help.
8. Post a news story in your village about what you are trying to do so that it shows up on the main Nabuur page under "news". It's a great way to keep people updated about what you are trying to do.
9. Email your friends and ask them to help-you can do this directly from the GiveMeaning site, or pick and choose who you think would be willing to help.
10. One thing that I was actually very surprised at was how my family responded to our project. Don't underestimate the power of your family in helping something like this be a success. I found that my family was actually very excited to hear about what we were doing and even more eager to help.
11. Keep the blog updated on the GiveMeaning site once the project moves to fundraising. Share personal stories and why you believe in this project and what makes it important to you-when people know it matters to you and why, they are more apt to feel secure about making a donation.
12. Add a link and post to your personal blog asking your readers to consider voting and making a donation.
I hope that's helpful! I know you guys can reach your goal. All of you working together will be necessary. The key is to keep the project in front of people at all times. You may start feeling like you're just repeating yourself over and over again, but that's what it takes so keep at it and you'll get there.
Best wishes-
Jennifer
Many thanks Jennifer- they are terrific tips. Also- an excellent resourse for any other village who wants to go down the fundraising track with GiveMeaning. I know with the work between Gamuli and Yoshinkhel this forum worked- so I hope we can get these two young men to school be the end of Feb!
