Investigate micro-finance in Zambia- options to expand the business centre

Currently there are 4 computers in the Garden business centre (internet cafe). Business has been coming in steadily and the aim is that these 4 computers will be used to their maximum capacity each day. Profits generated by the centre will be re-invested into the YOFOSO youth programmes and into expanding the capabilities of the business centre. Purchasing additional equipment such as a photocopier, or more computers and printers is part of the business plan.
We are looking for Neighbours who can investigate micro-finance organisations that operate in Zambia and to also get in touch with them about loan criteria, required paperwork, loan duration, interest, fees etc.
As YOFOSO is a registered community based organization the business centre now has the capacity to generate income, therefore obtaining a micro-loan could be a way forward. Please let us know what you find out…

To kick start this task I have found the names of a few micro-finance orgs which can be contacted:
Pride Zambia Email: pride@coppernet.com
Website address: http://www.pridezambia.org/
CETZAM Opportunity Email: info@cetzam.com.zm bmulenga@cetzam.com.za
MicroBankers Trust (MBT) Email: mbt@microlink.zm
Anyone willing to follow up on these?
Hi- I have written emails today to Pride Zambia and CETZAM Opportunity.
I guess it's wait and see if we get a response!
Hello Carolyn,
Thank you very much and I agree with you it is a wait and see
situation.
Mulenga
Hi everyone- just by way of information, I have not received any response from any of the micro-finance orgs that I contacted.
I did find out about a small business chamber that might be able to assist YOFOSO in fidning some funds to purchase another piece of equipment:
ZCSMBA promotes the development of SMEs via provision of business
entrepreneurship skills through training; facilitation of market linkage and access to micro finance. ZCSMBA mobilizes membership of small-scale entrepreneurs at district level through District Business Associations (DBAs), which are affiliated to the Chamber.
Mulenga will try to contact them shortly to see if they can be of any assistance.
Caroly,
I also was investigating micro-finance in Zambia for a project on solar cooking. Here is an email I recieved from Webby Mate:
Hi,
Thanks for the message. Well I am the Executive Secretary for the Association of Microfinance Institutions of Zambia (AMIZ). AMIZ currently has a membership of 23 MFIs some of which operate in rural areas. I would like to believe your idea would certainly be welcomed by some of them including those operating in urban areas as you know poor people currently depend quite a great deal on charcoal for their cooking and so cost effective alternatives would be welcome.
I am willing to answer any more questions you might have.
Regards,
Webby Mate

Thank you very much for the tip George! Microfinancing is still an option for Mulenga since running the internet cafe is proving to be mor expensive than first thought.

HELPING HANDS....
Hello Jonathan, welcoem to Garden village and Nabuur! Thanks so much for the information you have posted. I'm sure that if Mulenga is interested in micro-financing for the internet cafe he will follow up on your suggestion. It's still an option.
So volunteering on Nabuur is as simple as making a useful post like you just have. Basically browse around the site and take a look at tasks that need help or attention. You don't have to be an expert in anything- you simply need to commit to helping finish the task or make meaningful contributions.
We're very pleased you have joined us here at Garden!
