WHAT WE'RE DOING

The Githurai community has a very high poverty and unemployment rate. In order to address this, Fountain Youth Initiative has decided to create a Vocational Training Center which will:

Support the on-going costs of supplying over 800 children with school supplies, uniforms, and sanitary pads so they can attend school.

Provide funding for direct support to an additional 400 underprivileged children within the community over 2014.

Bring a low-cost platform to the community for young locals to acquire valuable vocational skills which will in turn help them gain employment or start local businesses.

Invest in the ability for families to have the needed skills to earn living wages to support their children's education.

BECOME PART OF THE IMPACT

Our goal is to have the center ready and enrolling students by January 2014. Thanks to our previous donors for the vocational equipments, Tools With a Mission, Gered Geredschap, and Mr. Tomasz Rycko from Poland. we already have the vocational supplies including computers, knitting machines and sewing machines. Now we are looking to raise our start-up costs to break ground on this project and fund it for the 6-month incubating period. A total of $5,000 will cover the one-time costs and 6 months of operation, at which point it will be producing enough revenue to support itself AND our youth education initiatives in the community. You can read more about our planned project on our fundraising site.

Any support for the cause helps. If you are in a position to donate, we appreciate any financial support. If you can't donate, sharing the above link with your friends and family to spread the word is just as important, as we rely on our social networks to accomplish our goal!

God bless, and thank you from the management of Fountain Youth Initiative and the community of Githurai, Kenya!

Best regards
Josephat Bwire
Program Manager

INUKA REUSABLE SANITARY PADS

Status: Finished

This project involves facilitating training to vulnerable young girls in local public primary schools with information regarding Puberty, personal hygiene, sex education and HIV & AIDS then distribution of sanitary pads. The project has been relying on monthly donation thus sometimes not forthcoming hence girls have to miss classes during menstruation.

We are in the process of scaling up this project to involve local production of Inuka reusable sanitary pads thus becoming sustainable and effective hence more local young girls will not miss school during menstruation.

We kindly request for support to facilitate implementation of the Inuka Reusable sanitary project hence reducing the number of local girls missing school due to lack of sanitary pads during menstruation.
