How you can help:
1 Faciliatate this by providing links to possible funders that we can contact (There is a file with organisations that have been contacted and those that havent attached, and results. This will be updated as we go.) An interim template letter has been added for volunteers to send to the organisations,)
2 Add us to Facebook or other social media sites tell your friends about Githuai, Kenya Youth and let us know Hello

3 Write articles about the project for your local newspapers and radio stations and submit, and let us know
4 Donate yourself, even $1 goes a long way to help buy a chicken!

Have you come across the One Hen Campaign in Kenya, that recently won 2nd place in the Africa Rural Connect competition http://arc.peacecorpsconnect.org/view/2035
Looks simple, low cost, and can grow over time..
Mary
Hi,
This is a great initiative and it's impact is great hence the setting is rural while our setting is informal setting where individuals don't have access to free space but luckily enough we have space to run the project as a group. We are only lacking money to buy the poultry, food and materials to construct the structures. This is one of the initiatives that will make our organization to be sustainable as well as benefiting local disadvantaged young people in the community to be self reliant and independent.

Hi,
I will also , on top of the fund raising organizations' list given, that you are try the Njaa marufuku Kenya. A local Government grant if you have space. They support both crop and animal projects.
Make inquiries from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Josephat Nyagwaya.
Hi Josephat
OK, apologies for the confusion. The only information I could find on here is that you need $550 to set up a poultry project for young people and that there is land, so I had no idea how you are planning on running things.
I am assuing that the contact letter that you will be providing soon will give more details. And maybe you have a simple business plan too e.g. a breakdown of start up costs along with staff costs, other ongoing expenses, likely markets for eggs or birds (whichever you are planning on selling), expected income (and therefore expected profits) etc. That will show potential donors (or local sources of a business loan) that this really is a sustainable project that stands a good chance of success and will lead to long-term employment and income for some of your young people.
I think I have already sent you all the information I have on potential funding organisations, but hopefully other people will be able to suggest more :)
I like Josephat Nyagwaya's ideas of looking locally too. You don't have to get all your money from international organisations.
Mary
Hello
I attach a link to a guide to poultry breeding i found, http://www.fao-ectad-nairobi.org/IMG/pdf/How_to_Breed_and_Grow_Healthy_C... it is too large for here, and a breakdown done for a larger project from another village, which could be useful is attached.
Another task can be created for a business plan once more info is gathered for any volunteers who wish to take on this task
Best wishes
Gillian
Hi,
This is great hence we will contact the ministry of Agriculture as we do have the land to implement the project. I will keep you posted before the end of the week.

Hello
I found this site and they require a short proposal. I attach a document with many of the detials and critiera. I suggest you have a look over this as it seems quite relevant. See what you think. They need quite a bit of info from you. This may even do another initiative
Best wishes
Gillian
Here is an application form for First Peoples not sure if it will fund a poultyr project but if it fits in with the criteria thats fine. It doesnet seem to preclude it
Best wishes
Gillian

We are grateful for the support, we have received from volunteers across the globe via Nabuur. Kindly support us with researching funding organizations for the poultry project which will empower at least 50 young people annually or advise us on the best approach on how to start the project as currently we only have limited open space and the labour.
Best regards

Hi,
Thanks for the contact list as we have contacted them but as we wait for the response we have managed to start the project with 6 poultry and a simple structure will be put up next week through the support of interns. Kindly support this initiative by donating to our fundraising platform at http://www.betterplace.org/en/projects/8880-help-break-illiteracy-and-po...
This will support the poultry project hence contributing towards making our organization sustainable. Through your support, we will be in position to implement our various projects hence Nurturing, Empowering and Transforming local youths to be self reliant and independent.

The local youths and the international interns have started the poultry project by contributing towards construction of the chicken cages and purchase of 12 mature female chicken and 3 mature male chicken. The cages are incomplete as the resources were insufficient but the chicken are using them. We kindly request friends and well wishers to contribute towards this project to enable us complete the cages, purchase chicken feeds, medicine and more chicken. You can donate through http://www.betterplace.org/en/projects/8880-help-break-illiteracy-and-po... or contact Gillian for the upcoming event on 7th October 2012 Edinburgh Corn Exchange in Scotland.
Thanks for considering our requests as it will facilitate Nurturing, Empowering and Transforming local youths to be self reliant and independent.
