MARKETS FOR JEWELRY AND ART WORKS

Turning point program involves working with vulnerable young people in Githurai and it's environs. The project has developed three projects to assist in realization of the program goals.
Jewelry and Art work project is one of the project, the program has developed hence it involves more than seven vulnerable young people who are young single mothers & other unemployed youths whereby they make various kind of Jewelry & art work ranging from necklace, bracelets, earrings, chains, paintings, drawings, decorations, shopping baskets and many more hence are made of local materials. The local youths have managed to make various items and sell them at the local market in small quantity hence not sustaining to the project and young people involved thus we kindly request for the support to access international & regional markets thus making the project & young people involved sustainable thus realizing the program goal of Nurturing, Empowering and Transforming local vulnerable youths.

Another group sent a shipment to the USA, US$1200 air freight cost, and never got paid. Do not ship anything to anyone anywhere unless they send payment or you ship it COD. I tried to collect but we kept getting all kinds of excuses. The woman died. It is now history. Learn from that experience.
I had a retail craft shop and ordered from a number of countries. Exporting to the USA/Europe is not easy. Go on the internet and find groups doing that for people. Do not pay anything upfront or pay them. Send samples to those with a good reputation.
Thanks for the advice hence today will take time to research on various international organizations or platforms that have good reputation and are in position to take in our products.
Thanks.

Hi Ken,
After deliberating your proposals, members agreed to implement the proposal as from next year but before the end of this year, they will establish Chicken rearing because it requires limited capital and small space to manage the project and their is ready available market. Thanks for assisting the group to think outside what they had.

It sounds like items 1 & 2 are very sensible. I can't comment on 3, farming, as I don't know enough about it, but it tends to be very hard work for little reward!
On the Entrepreneur Training angle, have you heard of The Prince's Turst in the UK. They help vunerable young people by providing entrepreneurship training and start up money. The barbers where I gen my hair cut started as a Princes Trust trainee in the 1990s and she now owns a barbers shop building and employs about 6 people.
The Trust's website might be worth a look, they may have links in Kenya

Hi Josephat Take a look here. http://www.therainforestsite.com/clickToGive/ourprojects.faces?siteId=4&... They sell all kinds of products and operate mainly in the USA but I think there are many Europeans like myself who are signed up to the site and buy from there too.
Just in case you are unsure about how this site works. don't forget to look along the top at the different tabs for different charities and then down the right had side. Because different help is offered in different areas, so whereas the top link I found deals with rainforest related issues, this one is to do with tackling hunger:
http://www.therainforestsite.com/clickToGive/ourprojects.faces?siteId=1&... Hope this makes sense.
At the bottom of the page, it says: Funds are paid by GreaterGood.org to benefiting organizations as a grant. So GreaterGood.org may also be useful to you; there is a media kit which you can download on that site, which is full of information on how they work. The contact details, in case you don't find this are as follows:
Randy Silvey

Good luck D

May I suggest using the internet? If you have access to computers, perhaps try selling them on etsy.com or ebay.com or something like that. It can give you access to markets internationally, to anyone who has an internet connection! It's awesome. I think that you could benefit greatly by using those sites to sell your jewelry or art.
