Help us obtain tools and funding to set up our Young Women's Carpentry Shop

Status: In progress
Step:
1

WomenFirst's women empowerment program has just concluded real skills training for 12 young girls in carpentry skills. The girls divided in two groups of 6 each want to begin making high end executive sofa chairs (couches) for the up scale market in Uganda. They need to set up a carpentry workshop and display room in the Capital City of Kampala, where they will make and market their products. They are working alongside their two instructors who are more skilled as they polish up their skills.

The groups need carpentry tools which include: Leather sewing machine, Jig Saw, Hammers, plain saws, leather scissors and other equipment. We can get these tools locally in Uganda at a price or some one with used carpentry tools in good working order can donate them to the group.

We are currently seeking US$6,000 altogether for the two groups to set up the two workshops at two different locations in the city. We are seeking partners, and fundraising ideas on how to raise funds for this project.

It does say microfinance orgs can email for more info though, so maybe there will be opportunities for more groups in more countries in the future? Agree with you about Practical Action - loads of great info!
