Teenage Girls Education Sponsorship
For every 100 girls that join Primary 1 in Kaliro District, only 25 are able to complete the first 7 years of education. Only 15 complete the next 4 years of secondary education and less than 5 join institutions or high school. Only one of these girls will reach University! Records from many primary schools show that the enrolment of girls in school in the lower classes is higher than that of boys almost a ratio of 1 boy to every 2 girls. While the records from higher education institutions show that the number of boys is far higher than that of girls almost 1 girl to every 10 boys! Where do all those girls who start school go? What happens to all those girls who begin with the boys in the same year? Why do many of them fail to complete the first 7 years and most of them do not see the secondary education?
The major reason is lack of school fees, due to preference of educating boys especially at this teenage stage when girls are not believed to be capable. By sponsoring some of these girls, we hope to change the perception of the community about teenage girls' education.
