Goats distribution

Jinja Central has been dormant on line but we have been on the ground working hand in hand with my facilitator. The students from Netherlands were trying to see how we can get some income generating activities but up to now they have not come up with a solution.
We came up with an alternative of giving out goats to disabled people and even families with disabled children. The reason why we decided to move in this direction is due to the fact that goat rearing is cheap and easily maintained hence making work easy for the disabled.
In addition to that, goats give birth within a short period and to more than one hence generating income to the disabled and making them self reliant and for the families with disabled children, the money is used to pay school fees for them and this gives them a chance to education.

Equip BEHOD's school in Kajjansi, Uganda

BEHOD started a school for vulnerable children in April of 2008. The school is located in Kajjansi, about 7 km from Kampala.
Paul wrote: “We started it seven months ago, when parents there decided to neglect their child because she is handicapped. We wanted to see it on its feet first, and then tell you. The third semester has just started. 20 kids attend the school: some are orphans, a few are not but from poor families. They were not in school, so we want to teach them.”
BEHOD is the owner of the school, that currently uses a rented building. Two teachers teach the children the same as they would learn in regular Ugandan schools. Of course the children also learn about PWDs and how to support them. Paul has discussed with the Ministry if they can help him to get the school registered.
Right now better equipment, books and stationary for the kids is urgently needed:
- books, pens, pencils, paper etc
- there's lack of furniture: most kids still sit on the floor, some cupboards would be useful
- the kids don't have school uniforms, some also lack shoes
We want to look for donation programs where BEHOD can apply, in order to equip the school.
Providing meals for the kids is also an issue. One of the ideas we have is setting up a school garden, but the plot is too small. Other ideas are welcome!

BEHOD, the Beam of Hope for the Disadvantaged, is an NGO based in Jinja, Uganda. With the help of online volunteers they managed to set up computer training for people with disabilities. Below you'll find the issues that still need to be improved.
