help us secure books

For this task we are looking for volunteers to help us identify organizations that donate/supply books or possibly local publishing houses that we might contact to help provide enough books to adequately stock our library as well as establish an appropriate ratio of text and reading books to students at the village. Books should be written in English.

Hello Michael and Esther;
You could try The International Book Project (http://www.intlbookproject.org/bks.php) as I know that HOPE Children's Foundation Africa (Kawempe Village) has received books from them. They also operate a school partnership program which HCFA participates in, called Books as Bridges, that matches students in U.S. schools with students in African schools as pen-pals.
I believe that HCFA also received some books from Darien Book Aid (http://www.darienbookaid.org/Foreign_Requests.html) so you could give them a try as well. Both of these organizations donate textbooks and reading books, and you can request books for specific ages and reading levels.
I hope that helps!
Cathy.
Hi
I agree with Cathy about IBP and Darien as I also know schools/groups that have received books from them.
Also try some of the book donors on my list at https://docs.google.com/View?docid=dgs9fnp6_0g5zp8p3n - the majority will donate the books and ship them for free too. There are also some groups on there who may be able to donate sewing machines too.
And some Ugandan organisations listed here http://www.nabuur.com/en/village/masaka/project/wiki/shared-document-wik...
I don't think Christopher (Masaka Local Rep) had any luck with these but you could still try.
Mary
