I will be posting it here in our village, Jinja East for everyone to share their ideas on our task at hand. Which is about our goal to find ways and solution on how we would utilize an 11 hectare of land for agricultural use. The post include the following subjects below: Trees For The Future (who have already sent seeds to Butikiro) have training materials on their website. See http://www.treesftf.org/resources.htm. The Long Distance Agroforestry sections says you can contact them to get a copy of the training manual (its on the site but its a big download), and there is other info too. They also have a group of partners in Uganda who organise training workshops, so it would be good to find out whether they would consider providing training to your members. See http://www.treesftf.org/projects/uganda.htm. The New Forests Project's World Seed Program http://www.newforestsproject.org/nfp/en/newforestsproject/html/seeds.htm... provides free seeds, training materials, irrigation kits and small grants to non-profit groups in developing countries. The site contains information on how this works, the types of seeds, who qualifies, and how to apply (process starts by emailing piolster@ic-nfp.org for more info). They send quite large quantities of seeds, but if that is too many may also be able to put you in touch with existing local partners who have already received seed and can pass some on - FAQ page explains more. So if approaching them about seeds, its worth asking about training materials too. If you can get hold of some existing materials from these or other organisations, it gives you (and Nabuur volunteers) a good place to start from if you choose to modify them to meet particular needs of the farmers you are working with. [body] => Hello Michael and Esther, If you already have the land, you can begin by working together with the children to plant say 1 acre with the fruit trees. If you can afford grafted trees, they will take a shorter time to yield and then you can use the proceeds to increase the farm. What will usually happen, (and God works the same way, many times!) When people come and look at your 1 acre and you share your 11 hectare idea, they will be willing to make input.
