Search for Organizations that Support School Building Projects
Status:

Time needed:
Two weeks or more
Step:
1
For this task, we are seeking volunteers to assist us with conducting Internet research. We need your assistance to help us identify different organizations around the world (and in Cameroon) who provide financial support for building projects such as ours.
We intend to work from this list to begin making contacts with the organizations identified in hopes that financial support can be secured to build the additional classrooms onto the school.

Dear Mr. Velan,
Arienne whom Claudia asked to work with me left some organisations that can be of help to the School. She told me she is signing out of Nabuur. Here are the organisations to contact. How can we contact them? What should we do about it. Remeber I am a novice in these things and has to be guarded all the way by you. They are:
World Servants

Although World Servants, Inc. is an independent, non-denominational organization, the opportunity arose to partner with American Baptist, Missouri Synod Lutheran, and Christian Missionary Alliance churches. Since then other partnerships have included Compassion International, Life Touch Photography, World Vision, and various Christian radio stations around the country.

Dear Francis,
I think these are excellent contact information available with us. We need to finalise how we are planning, what we have done so far, how much money we need and until when we need assistance and etc., Then with appropriate documentations we need to approach these organisation.
My concern at this point is that we need to get a rough estimate of the cost of the whole building and a project plan. With this we should be able to proceed to these organisations.
Our stages 1 and 2 are not finished and it seems our volunteer list is really thin.
May be we will try to catch up some time during the weekends and discuss on how to proceed.
Thanks
Velan
Velan,
These are very good points you make I think. Perhaps a good next step is to start to prepare a project brief that contains information about the projects aims and objectives, the material and resource costings (as estimates), the proposed site and its amenities, and any other information about the project. Such a document can then be used to present to potential funding organisations as a way of outlining the vision for the project.
Some organisations may have specific procedural requirements or need a particular form of documentation, and it may be worth making some preliminary contact to assess such needs. They may also have suggestions about the process for starting up a project and seeking funding.
If you think it would be of assistance I may be able to find an example of a project brief that perhaps may provide some guidance for this step.
Regards
Carly
Dear Mr. Velan and Mr. Carly,
I thank you for your discussions are work towards this project. Remember I said I am a novice in these things. I depend so much on your good advice as we move along. Thank you once again. Anywhere you want me to be of assistance, contact me.
Dear Francis & all
Francis, thank you for your letter in Nabuur profile.
I have Drafted the Funding Letter in Wiki.
If necessary, you all are Welcome to edit it.
Francis,as your writings, told me you consider yourself very inexperienced in these works.
So if you need any help, you can use my Yahoo(Personal) profile id,in my Nabuur profile.
But still for your information.let me tell you,to get Fund for your school follow the below-
1)You have to "Register" your school
2)You have to make a "Budget" of the school expenses. If you are not getting anyone, you ask Nabuur office, they will be able to tell you of a Nabuur Volunteer ,who is Good in making Budget. So you personally contact him/her,as you contacted me.
3)You need a short description of your school.
4)Once all the above 3 things are ready, you can apply to Funding organisations.
Warm regards,
Sushmita,
India
Dear Sushmita,
Thank you for your response. Indeed, I am unskilled in certain things, but with people like you I will come through with many things. I will go to the wiki and see the draft and possibly get anadvice from Velan and others. Our school is duly registered under ABCD Organisation www.assofbaptistchurchesfordev.bravehost.com according to the laws of our country.
I will be refering back to you as often as possible.
Thank you.
Dear Sushmita,
Welcome to our village! We are really happy to receive you here and thanks very much for your valuable inputs and funding letters.
Your expertise is definitely needed for us.
Actually we are at a situation where we need to make a project charter for the project. The charter should include the purpose of the school, budget etc., I am attaching a sample charter in the document folder. We need to complete everything and if you can help in providing some inputs, we will be really glad for that.
Best Regards
Velan
Hi Mr. Velan,
Can we go ahead contacting organizations now?
Hi, Mr. Velan,
It is nice chatting with you the other day. Glad that you promised our tackling of things this month. Still waiting to hear from you.
Francis.
Hi everyone,
The funding proposal for the Jinkfuin School project has already been done by the facilitators. We are in the process of contacting organizations who may be interested in this project. We kindly beg the assistance of everyone who will sign in to help in this area.
Sushmita had researched and posted the following links a little over a year ago in a separate task which I will be closing. In order to preserve them, I am moving them here:

Thank for the links. You will be helping me on how to make good use of them. I value all what your doing and hope the best for it.
From their website:
"Our aim is to raise money to build schools in rural Africa through our partner NGO Strategic Humanitarian Services (SHUMAS), Cameroon.
In addition to clean, hygienic and well-constructed classrooms, we aim to ensure clean drinking water and sanitation facilities are available at each of the schools we support, in order to help improve the health of the children."
http://www.schoolsforafrica.co.uk/
I think this one would be a great resource to contact. It looks like they also have a partnership with Shumas-Strategic Humanitarian Services in Cameroon (http://www.shumas-cameroon.org/schools.php).
Let me know if you'd like to move forward with that.
All the best-
Jennifer
This foundation is based in the United States. According to their website:
"NEBF is an independent private foundation started in 1982 by the founder of New England Biolabs, Inc. to support grassroots organizations working with the environment, social change, the arts, elementary education, and science."
http://www.nebf.org/index.html
They do provide funding in Cameroon. I read through their website and think this may have applicability to both the school (if you focus on environmentally responsible building, conservation principles, possibly work in solar energy...just some initial thoughts). It also applies for the project working with people with disabilities.
We can talk more about this one if you'd like.
Regards-
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, Can you work on a proposal for this one? Should I send what Singaravelan brought up?
