Background: HIV/AIDS blocks all development

The greatest threat to development in this region is the threat of HIV/AIDS.

HIV/AIDS has brought with it an increasing number of orphans and orphan headed households and has ensured that all the community resources are channelled to the care of the sick, not to mention the pressure on the public health facilities.

Kabondo community has been facing abject poverty as a result of the ravages of HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Waterborne diseases and poor agricultural practices resulting from community ignorance of the best practices for sustainable agriculture. This if not checked will bring untold suffering in the next 5 to 10 years.

HIV/AIDS has become the chief contributor to poverty in this community. It is slowly reverting the progress this region has made on education, agriculture and economy.

The community has various plans to improve their situation, of which one is the establishing a community centre where the community members can access information on HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Safe water practices and sustainable agriculture. However, most urgent is to find support for the group of young HIV/AIDS orphans in the community.
