Fundraising Updates
Just a quick update on fundraising:
Out tweetheart event raised just over $500 bringing our total to $806 CDN. Our original goal was $2500 which would be used for the microloan program, blanket making and a cloth sanitary pad project.
The first priority is the microloan program, which has a minimum goal of $1200 (but ideally we would like to raise $1500). That means we need to raise at least $400 more dollars. We are looking for suggestions to help raise this last bit so that all 10 women can receive training and up to a $100 microloan.
Any thoughts are suggestions or (or even donations) are greatly appreciated! You can donate at www.givemeaning.com/project/kabondo or provide your input under the microloan task.
Thanks!

I thank you for the effort so far in raising 806$
Is it possible to start with this .it also depends on what kind of activity the women will engage in. Otherwise you may think of a revolving fund for a few to begin, then pass on the benefit to others after a specified period of time. (THE ACTIVITY WILL DETERMINE IF THIS CAN WORK) DEVISE A CRITERIA FOR SELECTING WHO BENEFITS FIRST.
as you continue to mobilise more resources. Keeping this funds just idle may make the group loose focus and diverted since this can not be done immediately as planned.
These are a few of my comments. I welcome further interaction
Otherwise encouraging and Good effort

Barb - Congrats on the $806! not bad for a first try. I wonder if you want to start the women on chickens - we have a projected budget mapped out in Wakitaka for $650 for 250 birds (might be less - i think the electricity is being taken out) - maybe start with 200 chickens for $500- broilers that are raised for 2 months and sold for their meat; 2-3 women on goats for $200 and maybe $100 to purchase the bucket drip system and veggies to grow during the dry season - Very profitable on a rented half acre for $15. Just an idea if the women are anxious to get started - do let me know if you need background materials.

A neighbour, Tammy Lewis from Canada has once again stepped in to reach out to yet another of our beneficiaries. Tammy and her young daughter Rachael have donated Kshs.12,548 (approximately $200)to purchase goats and chicken for rearing by a young male total orphan 10 years old) who is living with HIV and who has recently lost his grandmother who has been caring for him since his parents' death.
The money will be used to purchase goats and chicken by the guardians which will multiply over time and help the guardian afford the basic necessities required by this young boy. Goats are relatively less expensive to maintain and are very popular with families in the rural areas because of the ease of maintenance and conversion to cash in case of family financial constraints and other needs.
We take this opportunity to thank Tammy again for reaching out to this young boy facing a number of challenges at a very tender age.
To protect the privacy of this young boy, i will conceal his identity and will therefore not be posting his photograph here but will instead send it to Tammy who has had previous contact with him.
Thank you very much Tammy and be blessed.

WOW, Great news Eric!
Tammy and her daughter appear to have done so much to help this community.
I'd like to thank them as well. They are quiet achievers, always toiling away in the background :O)
Thanks Tammy and Rachael
