Greetings Everyone!
I would just like to take a moment to welcome all the new neighbours to Kabondo and thank all the existing neighbours for their continued contributions!
Eric and the community has been busy recently with visitors to the community and preparing for new ones to come. Recently, Dr. Lucy Steinitz visited Kabondo on behalf of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, to make an assessment for a proposal submitted to the SLF. Next week, some visitors from the University of Western Ontario (Canada) will be visiting as well to discuss some potential projects in the area.
On Nabuur, 2 groups of students from the Netherlands, have expressed interest in working on projects in Kabondo. Loes and Petries indicated they are interested in looking at various uses of sweet potatoes and school-gardening programs. The second group, Maartje, Lieke, Linda and Charlotte are interested in health issues including worm infections and water. We look forward to their work on these tasks.
An ongoing discussion regarding avocados has been very active as well. Neighbours from around the world have been conducting experiments in separating oil from the avocado and trying simple methods. The first few attempts didn't work out but Melissa from Australia has since had some success. Raul and Mary have also been trying and we look forward to more successful attempts and hope the community can do a trial soon.
A new task has been opened regarding the Christmas party for Kabondo. We are seeking assistance from any neighbours on this task. If you would like to make a financial contribution to Kabondo, you can send funds directly to Eric via Moneygram or Western Union or you can donate online via the secure Give Meaning site at www.givemeaning.com/project/kabondo
The following tasks are currently open:
1. Website - Content Writer and Webmaster
The website www.kabondopoverty.org has been developed thanks to the assistance of Chris, Robert and Kent, as well as the hard work of Eric, but a website is in constant need of updating. We unfortunately had a hacker on the site and had to restart the site. We have some basic information, but many of the pages require more updating and content.
If you are good at website management and can place regular updates, then we need you!
2. Avocado as Income Generation
As mentioned we are working on research into avocado oil production and other uses. We require access to a University library to find a few articles. If you can access university articles and journals please let us know.
Please visit Kabondo and if you can contribute in any way - let us know!
